To register for an Accessory​ Dwelling Unit (ADU), the following steps must be taken to complete the application process:

New Accessory Dwelling Units

​New accessory dwelling units must be constructed under the building permit process and the application for registration submitted after the following work has been completed:

  • ​​Completed and signed Accessory Dwelling Unit application form
  • Final Building Inspection Report
  • A letter from the Electrical Safety Authority (dated within six (6) months of application submission) indicating compliance with safety requirements
  • A sketch of the parking area with dimensions

Existing Accessory Dwelling Units built prior to November, 1995 

Unregistered existing, Accessory Dwelling Units

  • Third party review report to confirm compliance
  • A sketch of area with dimensions
  • A letter from the Electrical Safety​ Authority (dated within six months of submitting application) indicating compliance with safety requirements
  • A letter from Central York Fire Services (dated within six months of submitting the application) indicating compliance with the Fire Code
  • Registration fee of $250 ​+HST

Please note that building permit fees or any other agency inspection fees are not included in the above and are payable by the applicant as required.
