The Town of Newmarket is home to Ontario's first solar-powered bench that charges your mobile devices. Don't forget to #BYOC – bring your own cord!
Located at Newmarket's Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive), this solar-powered bench, created by Soofa was featured as an up-and-coming technology at US President Barak Obama's Inaugural White House Maker Faire in June 2014 and was referred to as one of the 'six wonders of the Maker Faire' in the Wall Street Journal.
The solar powered bench was unveiled to the Newmarket community on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 and will be a permanent feature at the Riverwalk Commons area.
The solar-powered Soofa bench represents Newmarket's vision for its parks and public spaces. The bench is a social space that will inspire innovative conversations, memorable experiences and is a reminder of the valuable community connections we make on a day-to-day basis. The solar-powered Soofa bench is the future of parks and public spaces today and an integral piece of what makes Newmarket even better.
