150 Days of Summer Campaign

Have you purchased your Newmarket 150 butto​n yet? ​​The Newmarket 150 button will gain you access to extra activities, ​150 Days of Summer - red circle promotions, perks and more at all Newmarket events. These include:
  • ​​upgraded popcorn, drink and treat at all Moonlight Movies
  • unlimited rides on ​the ferris-wheel at merry-go-round at the Canada Day Festival (normally $3 a person) 
  • admission to extra performances at Buskerfestival
  • admission for your dog to the Pooch Plunge (outdoor pool) at New'bar'ket
  • free recreation program voucher at each Music in the Park event and more!

Canada Day in Newmarket
Date: July 1, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fairy Lake Park (Water Street)
Fireworks Display: 7:30 to 10:20 p.m. (Fireworks begin at 10 p.m.) at George Richardson Park (Bayview Parkway)

Celebrate Canada's 150th with Newmarket at the Canada Day Festival. There will be vendors, live music, BMX stunt show, rock climbing, ferris-wheel, merry-go-round and more. For more information, visit the Newmarket Canada Day event webpage. ​

Newmarket Blood Donor Clinic - Collect 150 units
Blood Clinic Results Update: Thanks to your community support, #Newmarket and Canadian Blood Services were able to achieve 95% of our target at 143 donations and 99% of the clinic's target! Well done Newmarket​ ​

Date: Monday, June 12, 2017​​
​The Town of Newmarket, Mayor and Members of Council have partnered with Canadian Blood Services to help ensure lifesaving blood products are available to hospital patients in need. The Town has adopted the Monday, June 12, 2017 Newmarket blood donor clinic at Holiday Inn Express & Suites (100 Pony Drive) to encourage blood donations and recruit new donors. The Town's goal is to help collect 150 donations at the clinic, in honour of Canada 150 during the clinic's hours from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Donate and schedule an appointment today at blood.ca. ​​
Touch-a-Truck and Community Open House
Date: Thursday, May 26, 2017 The Town of Newmarket, hosted the Touch-A-Truck and Community Open House, sponsored by Royalcrest Paving, TD Bank and Cobs Bread. This event allowed visitors to get up-close-and-personal with different trucks, equipment and vehicles that help Public Works Services in their day-to-day jobs. This event was held in celebration of National Public Works Week and Canada 150. With other 2500+ attendees and support from community organizations such as York Regional Police, Central York Fire Services, York Region Paramedic Services and more.

NATIONAL CANADIAN FILM DAY
Date: Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at various times
Newmarket participated and hosted the largest film festival in Canada in acknowledgement of Canada 150 at Newmarket's Old Town Hall. This was a celebration of Canadian films at over 600 venues across the country in honour of Canada 150. Films included: Double Happiness, Red Violin, Atanarjuat: The Fast Runner and Strange Brew
Newmarket Earth Hour
Results Update: Newmarket reduced electricity use by 4.03 megawatts - a 3.1 per cent reduction when compared to a typical Saturday night in March. That is equivalent to removing 1,600 homes off the grid.
 
Date: March 25, 2017 from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Every year, Earth hour encourages everyone to shine a light on climate action and power down for an hour from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. In celebration of Canada 150, we are encouraging our community go beyond the ordinary and power down for 150 minutes in total. Are you up for the challenge?
Beautification of our Town - Canada 150
Our Public Works Services have beautified our Town with Canada 150-themed initiatives such as: Canada 150 painted maintenance covers, Red and White flowers around town Art collaboration with Huron Heights Secondary School Students (Canada 150-themed Snow Plows).

Canada 150 at the Newmarket Public Library
The Newmarket Public Library hosts an array of Canada 150-related events and initiatives. Music in the Park
Date: Thursdays on July 6,13, 20,27 and August 3, 10 and 17 at Fairy Lake Park (Water Street) from 7 to 8 p.m. 
Date: Sundays on July 9, 16, 30 and August 13 at Newmarket's Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) from 7 to 8 p.m. 

Join us at Music in the Park, sponsored by Jay Miller and Cobs Bread at various times and locations and enjoy free musical performances by local Canadian talent. Kids Downtown
Date: Tuesday, July 4, 11, 18, 25 at Newmarket's Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) from 7 to 8 p.m. Sponsored by: Peter C. Geibel, Main Street Reality LTD., TD Bank, David's Tea and Cobs Bread

Come out to this children-oriented entertainment show. Please bring a lawn chair or blanket. Inclement weather location is inside the Community Centre. For more information, visit the Kids Downtown Webpage.

Newmarket National 10-Minute Play Festival
Date: Saturday, July 22 to Sunday, July 23 at Old Town Hall (460 Botsford Street) and the Newmarket Theatre (505 Pickering Crescent) 

The Newmarket National 10-Minute Play Festival will feature 24 original, 10-minute plays that will be packaged into four pods of six shows. Ten-minute plays are not ​sketches, they demand fully realized characters that make us laugh and cry and stories that touch the core of our being. The challenge for the playwright is to create a world in 600 seconds that keeps each audience member fully committed to the story being told. For more information, visit nationalplayfestival.ca​​​​

Moonlight Movies

Magna Centre's 10th Anniversary Celebration
Date: Sunday, September 3

This event will feature free activities all-day such as public swimming, shinny drop-in and access to the Tim Hortons Gymnasium from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will also be cake and drinks served at 2 p.m.
Splash of Culture
Date: Friday, September 8

Three performers, Sarah Hagen, Quisha Wint and Michael Massaro will be preforming for Splash of Culture – Music on Water at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons (200 Doug Duncan Drive) at approximately 8:15 p.m.
Buskerfestival
Date: Sunday, September 24
Street performers will entertain audiences at multiple staged around Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons, Timothy Street and Old Town Hall from 1 to 4 p.m.
