Starfish: In this level babies and their caregivers work on getting wet, buoyancy and movement, front , back and vertical positions in the water, and shallow water entries and exits.

In this level, toddlers and their caregivers work on submersion, front and back floats and glides, jumping into chest-deep water with assistance, kicking on front and front swim. The goal of this level is for toddlers to become comfortable in the water with their instructor and without their caregiver. Over the session, caregivers will be asked to gradually remove themselves from the class for greater periods of time.

This private lesson would be ideal for beginners or those needing warmer water for therapeutic reasons. The quiet, private atmosphere limits visual and auditory distractions. Parking fees are not included. Free parking is available at the Recreation Youth Centre.

Interested in volunteering with the Town of Newmarket Aquatics Team? In this program you will volunteer as an assistant instructor during our swimming lessons. The Bronze Cross award continues to develop lifesaving skills and introduces the principles of lifesaving in aquatic facilities. This course provides comprehensive training of first aid and CPR and incorporates all skills from Emergency First Aid including Spinal injuries, medical emergencies and other injuries. Bronze Cross is a prerequisite for the NLS Program, and RC/LSS Instructors program. Prerequisites:  100 % attendance, Bronze Medallion and Emergency First Aid certifications (need not be current). Materials required: Canadian Lifesaving Manual from Bronze Medallion course.

Distinction

Encourages a maturity of response to demanding aquatic emergency situations and is designed to develop advanced water rescue skill and knowledge, and an understanding of the principles of fitness training.

Distinction challenges include implications of assuming responsibility in an emergency, how to deal with

2 victims at once, and rescue of a non-breathing spinal-injured victim. Inherent in the name of the award, lifesavers must perform every item with distinction.

Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1

The Lifesaving Sport Coach Level 1 certification is designed to introduce the fundamentals of coaching lifesaving sport skills. This course will emphasize coaching appropriate to community level athletes, while increasing the competencies of a lifesaving coach at the community program level. Prerequisite: LSS Instructors and Emergency First Aid.

LSS Swim Update Course

The Swim Instructor Update Clinic teaches instructors of other agencies' learn to swim programs how to deliver Swim For Life (Lifesaving Socitey's Learn to Swim program). Prerequisites: Red Cross WSI, Lifesaving Instructor or other Agency Aquatic Instructor certification.
