Internet Voting and Ranked Ballot Survey

Internet Voting and Ranked Ballots are options for the 2018 municipal election. Internet voting is a new method of voting that can be implemented with approval from Town Council. Internet voting has been used by other municipalities since 2003.

Ranked ballots allow a voter to rank candidates in order of preference --first choice, second choice, third choice, etc. -- instead of just voting for one candidate. Ranked Ballots are  new to Ontario and are now permitted under recent amendments to the Municpal Elections Act.

The Town is currently looking for feedback from Newmarket residents as to what your preferences are regarding both voting method, and voting system. A survey was available in December for residents to provide comments. A Special Committee of the Whole meeting is scheduled for January 30, 2017 on this topic.

For more information on both options please visit the Internet Voting and Ranked Ballot page.
