Town to unveil the future of downtown Newmarket
Conceptual design to be showcased November 17
NEWMARKET, Ontario, November 13, 2009 - The Town of Newmarket will be holding a public meeting this November 17 to present the conceptual design for the community urban space project (CUSP). This is a follow-up to the September 15 public meeting and will give residents and business-owners the opportunity to comment and provide feedback on the project's design.
"The Town is very excited about this project," says Mayor Tony Van Bynen. "Once completed, this community space will be a unique landmark, acting as a meeting place for families, community groups and cultural enthusiasts."
Working collaboratively with the provincial and federal governments, the Town of Newmarket has made this initiative possible through the Building Canada Fund, an infrastructure program for strengthening the economy. The Town's vision is to create a greater link between the downtown core and the trail system. This will help construct a central community hub for residents where they can enjoy a dynamic social meeting place to celebrate culture, and participate in recreational and civic activities.
"The ideas and concepts for the design of the community urban space project would not have been possible without the valuable contributions of our local residents and business-owners," says Regional Councillor John Taylor. "Please come out on November 17 to discover what's in store and share in the excitement."
Using input from residents and business-owners, the Town and JRA consultants have completed the conceptual design for the community urban space project. The public is invited to attend the meeting on November 17 to see what their input has helped create and to provide any additional feedback. The meeting will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., with the presentation beginning at 7 p.m., in Halls 1 and 2 of the Community Centre (200 Doug Duncan Drive).
