A perfect blend of culture, shopping, restaurants, heritage sites, and entertainment, for over a hundred years Newmarket's Main Street has been a hive of activity and a favourite meeting place for residents and visitors.
Over the past several years, the Town of Newmarket has worked closely with the downtown merchants, the Business Improvement Area (BIA) and members of the community to transform and revitalize historic Main Street and the surrounding downtown area into a unique, vibrant, thriving focal point of the community. Since 2003, the Town has invested approximately $3 million in streetscape and infrastructure improvements and over $650,000 in financial incentive programs to beautify and modernize the downtown while continuing to honour the areas rich heritage and history. |

Identified as the centre for culture and entertainment in the Town's cultural master plan, Main Street continues to be the cultural hub and the heart of the community. With the help of Provincial and Federal funding, Newmarket is investing more than $10 million in 2010 and 2011 for a number of major initiatives including revitalizing and restoring the Old Town Hall, creating an exciting new multi-use, multi-seasonal urban park area and renovating the Community Centre Lands. With so many progressive and innovative projects underway, downtown will continue to thrive, transform and flourish in the coming years! |
