Community Centre & Arena
The Newmarket Community Centre (200 Doug Duncan Drive) has just undergone a facelift! As part of the development of the new urban park (Newmarket Riverwalk Commons), the adjacent Community Arena was demolished in June 2010, and the Community Centre is now about to get a facelift! Built in 1976, the Community Centre is in need of renovations to the interior and exterior of the building.
A key support element for the new urban park (CUSP) that's scheduled to open spring 2011, the Community Centre will also be expanded to include new washrooms with outdoor access and a small addition for park equipment (click for an article on the renovation plan). A public meeting was held on Monday, August 9, 2010 to give members of the community an opportunity to view and comment on the proposed renovations.
