2005 year in review: A report to the community

Dear Newmarket residents:

Image

The end of the year is often the time we stop and think about the accomplishments and milestones we’ve achieved over the last 12 months. The same holds true for Council and staff at the Town of Newmarket. At this festive time of year, we felt it appropriate to celebrate our successes with you in our first “Year in review: A report to the community.”

This year, Council and staff launched Newmarket’s first community strategic plan entitled “Bringing Newmarket’s Vision into Focus.” This plan defines Newmarket’s community vision, and the mission and core values of the corporation. It will serve as a guide for Council and staff for years to come. In keeping with Newmarket vision, Council strengthened its commitment to environmental preservation and is currently updating the official plan to ensure Newmarket remains a great place to live for future generations.

From establishing anti-idling and water conservation bylaws, to making significant headway on a new state-of-the-art recreation complex, we are well on our way to achieving our vision of being a community well beyond the ordinary.

On behalf of Council and staff, have a safe and happy holiday season and all the best for 2006.

Sincerely,

Tom Taylor, Mayor
