Garbage & Recycling collection boundaries
In Newmarket, only size specific waste bins/ cans are collected by our waste collector.
According to Newmarket Waste Collection Bylaw 2007-77
Residents who set out their waste in oversized, non-bylaw compliant cans will receive a neon green sticker affixed to the can. As a result of this oversize bin, the waste will not be emptied.
Q: Why are oversize containers a problem?
A: SAFETY - Containers larger than 98 litres increase the risk of injury to collectors. Such cans easily hold more than the allowed 22 kg (50 lbs), making it unsafe for collectors to handle.
Recycle Bin Size Example:

Bylaw 2007-77 Sect 7.2 ![]()
Blue boxes must be "open topped plastic crates, or plastic pails that are clearly and easily identifiable as containing Blue Box Recyclables, and which shall be capable of containing all materials without spillage and which shall not exceed 50 cm (20 inches) in height and 50 cm (20 inches) in width and 66 cm (26 inches) in length."
Newmarket has three sizes of blue bins is use; the 16 gallon, 18 gallon and the recent 22 gallon. Blue Bins purchased from the Town are replaced free of charge if damaged or broken.
