Nevada (break open ticket) Licensing

A break open ticket is a device made of cardboard with symbols revealed by tearing open perforated cover window tabs. The winning combination of symbols is specified on the back of the ticket. Break open tickets are also known as Nevada tickets or pull tabs.

A municipality may issue a license to eligible local charitable or religious organizations where the break open tickets are not to be sold in conjunction with another gaming event.

The licensee must conduct and manage the event in accordance with the Terms and Conditions of the license. For more information, please visit the http://agco.on.ca/.

Nevada applications take three weeks to process.

Application Requirements:

  • completed application form.
  • organization's principal officer original signatures.
  • license fee - 3 per cent of the total prize value (cheque written on the Lottery Trust Account payable to the Town of Newmarket)
  • sample copy of nevada ticket
  • any changes or amendments to the requirements
  • current copy of the Gaming Service Supplier Registration
  • current copy of the Gaming Equipment Supplier Registration
  • certificate of registration of the third party location selling tickets.

Reports:

Nevada Reports must be filed within 30 days from expiry of license.

Nevada proceeds breakdown

Third party location:

  • total expenses (not including license fee) not to exceed 14.5% (BN1) OR 16.35% (BN2) of gross proceeds
  • sales commission to seller not to exceed 6.5% of the gross receipts, inclusive of GST
  • registered gaming supplier not to exceed 4% of the gross receipts

Charity's own location:

  • total expenses not to exceed 10% of gross receipts

The following documents shall accompany the financial report:

  • copies of all original stamped deposit slips related to the event
  • receipts from ticket seller and/or gaming services supplier (reconciliation form)
  • receipts for expenses (i.e. invoice for purchase of tickets)
  • original stamped monthly bank statement and cancelled cheques
