Recyclables

Recyclables are products or materials that can be collected, separated and processed to be used Imageas raw materials in the manufacture of new products.

As part of York Region’s 2006 Joint Waste Diversion Strategy, The Town of Newmarket is committed to achieving and maintaining 65 per cent diversion of waste from local landfills. Combined with other successful projects like the Green Bin program, the adoption of this new program will further help Newmarket move closer to achieving and exceeding its goal to increase the amount of waste we divert from landfills and reuse to make other material.

Recyclable material makes up a large part of this diversion strategy. Newmarket residents and visitors who properly dispose of their waste material using the appropriate receptacles help us keep our environment clean and sustainable.

Here are some of the materials which should be placed in the recycling receptacle:

  • Empty plastic drinks and food containers
  • Empty juice boxes
  • Paper coffee cups with lids removed
  • Clean paper plates and food containers
  • Newspapers, magazines, flyers
  • Clean cardboard and boxboard (e.g. cracker boxes)
  • Empty cans and glass bottles

These are some of the items which should not be placed in the recycling bin:

  • Plastic film and wrap
  • Straws
  • Foam cups and food trays
  • Chip bags and candy wrappers
