Waste

All waste which cannot be placed in either the recycling or organics bins can be discarded in the Imagegarbage receptacle. The general waste placed in this bin is collected and sent to local landfills. However, if discarded properly, the amount of waste going into this bin should be significantly reduced, meaning less garbage going into our landfills.

Here are some of the items which should be placed in the garbage bin:

  • Plastic film, wrap and bags
  • Straws
  • Foam cups, trays and take-out containers
  • Chip bags and candy wrappers
  • Waxed take-out pop cups and lids
  • Waxed and foil paper packaging
  • All other items not accepted in the Recycle and Compost bins

Here are some of the items which should not be placed in the garbage receptacle:

  • Illegal dumping of household garbage bags (Newmarket bylaw 2007-77)
  • Household hazardous waste (e.g. batteries, propane cylinders, old paint, etc.)
