Water locate information
When making improvements to your home, whether its for the installation of fences, pools, decks, or landscaping, be sure to make arrangements for water and sewer locates by calling the Operations - Works Area at 905-895-5193. Be sure to check with all other utilities as well.
REMEMBER
1. Fire hydrants must be visible and accessible for use at all times. Camouflaging or painting of a fire hydrant hinders accessibility and is not permitted.
2. An annual curb stop repair/lowering service is conducted in all subdivisions in Newmarket by the Works Area during early spring.
3. The Works Area does not maintain the shut off valve located in your home. However, we will turn off the water at the street in order for inside repairs to take place. Residents are advised to conduct periodic valve operational checks to ensure maintenance of same.
4. Discoloration of water (rust/red) from the hot water tap may indicate a problem with the water tank itself. For investigation of this discoloration, residents should contact the rental agency of the hot water tank.
5. A tap leaking one drop per second wastes more than 25L of water a day. The problem is often a worn-out washer which can cost as little as 10 cents to replace.
