Newmarket is a financially healthy community that offers affordable taxes and low costs to establish or grow your business. This makes us a destination of choice for business owners and investors.

Development charges

Municipalities in Ontario use Development Charges (DCs) to recover certain costs that can be associated with residential and non-residential growth. The Development Charges Act is the statutory basis which permits these recoveries. It also sets out that municipalities are required to update their DC by-laws and rates every five years.

For more information on the Town's development charges visit the Development Charges page.

 Property taxes

The Town of Newmarket’s primary funding source is property taxes, which are divided between the Town, York Region and the School Boards. Newmarket is taking a responsible and balanced approach to budgeting. We are not just planning for today, we must also plan for future generations and respond to the needs of a growing community. It is our goal to create a legacy of social, financial and environmental sustainability to ensure that Newmarket remains one of the best places to live in Canada.

You can find out about the Town's property tax rate for residential, commercial, or industrial buildings on the Property Taxes page.

You can find an estimate of the property taxes for properties of different types and values using this Property Tax Calculator.

 Fees and charges

Most municipal services are subsidized from property taxes. User fee increases allow the Town to reduce the impact on the tax rate while continuing to provide high levels of service to our customers. Listed below are links to information about fees that may be relevant to you. Contact the Economic Development Office if you are considering locating or expanding your operations in Newmarket for more detailed information.

Rebates, grants, and incentives

The Town has a number of incentive programs to help encourage investment and development. Be sure to check out the Programs, Incentives, and Grants page and contact the Economic Development Office for more information.
