The Town of Newmarket in collaboration with York Region Public Health, continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

Users of the Town of Newmarket facilities/buildings/amenities are reminded that the facilities/buildings/amenities are open for use at your own risk. An inherent risk of exposure to communicable diseases including COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. 

By visiting any Town of Newmarket facility/building/amenity you voluntarily assume all risks including any risk of injury, loss, damage, and possible exposure to a communicable disease including COVID-19.

We remind you to follow the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines being recommended by various Canadian health authorities including the York Region Public Health Unit, Ontario Health and Public Health Agency of Canada.

All Trails and Open Spaces
Status: Open

Information:

  • Recreational use only.
  • No organized sports or league play is not permitted. 
  • Activities like having a picnic, playing catch, frisbee and kicking a soccer ball are allowed as long as everyone follows public health guidelines:

    • Stays at least 6ft. / 2m. away from people outside of their immediate household. 
    • Adheres to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circle. 

Ball Diamonds**
Status: Open for casual use only

Information: 
  • #3 McKnight Ball Diamond (at the Fairgrounds) will remain closed.
  • Batting Cage at the Fairgrounds is open. 
  • No organized sport or league play.
  • Recreational use only.
  • No game play allowed.

Basketball Courts
Status: Open 

Information: 
  • Must follow social gathering rules
  • Please wear a mask if physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m. cannot be maintained
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the amenity is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, please return at a later time.
  • If rules are not followed and safety cannot be assured, the Town will close the amenity within 24 hours
Boardwalk at the Tom Taylor Trail
Status: Open to one-way traffic only.

Information:

  • Entrance located at the south-end of the boardwalk near the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive).
  • Please adhere to the signage posted in the area. 
  • No passing is allowed on the boardwalk and cycling is not permitted.

Dr. Margaret Arkinstall Spray Pad
Status: Closed for the season 

Information:
  • Users may experience periodic closures during the soft opening phase as the Town and its contractor's test the system. We apologize for the inconvenience. 
  • Must follow social gathering rules
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the amenity is busy, please consider returning at a later time.

Frank Stronach Spray Pad (850 Memorial Circle)
Status: Closed for the season
  • Must follow social gathering rules

Global Pet Foods Dog Park presented by snapd (Newmarket off-leash dog park)
Status: Open

Information: 

  • Social gathering rules and capacity limits for each park must be followed
  • Safe physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m. must be followed at all times
  • Please wear a mask or face covering if safe physical distancing cannot be maintained
  • Please sanitize your hands after opening and closing the gate
  • Please remember to pick-up after your pet
Gorman Outdoor Pool (424 D'arcy Street)
Status: Closed for the season 

Municipal Playgrounds**
Status: Open 
  • Please maintain at least 6ft./2m. from others at all times. If physical distancing is a challenge, please wear a mask or face covering
  • The amenity is not sanitized. Please wash and/or disinfect your hands after visiting the amenity.
  • Please share this space with the community. If the amenity is busy, please consider returning at a later time. 

Outdoor Fitness Equipment
Status: Open
  • Please maintain at least 6ft./2m. from others at all times. If physical distancing is a challenge, please wear a mask or face covering

Outdoor Public Washrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: 
  • Outdoor bathrooms at the Tim Hortons Skating and Water Feature are open when the amenity is open. 
  • Fairy Lake public bathrooms are closed for the season due to a mechanical issue. Please use the portable toilets located in the northern parking lot. 
  • Portable toilets have been placed near the Rogers Spray Pad. 
Pickleball Courts

  • Please wear a mask if physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m. cannot be maintained

Rogers Spray Pad (170 London Road)
Status: Closed for the season 

Sport Fields**
Status: Open 

  • Must follow social gathering rules
  • Must practice safe physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m at all times
  • Please wear a mask if physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m. cannot be maintained

Tennis Courts

Tim Hortons Outdoor Skating at Riverwalk Commons
Status: Open
  • Open Daily: 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Information: 
  • Before attending outdoor skating feature, please conduct a self-assessment for COVID-19 symptoms. If you are experiencing symptoms, please do not attend until they subside.
  • Stay at least 6ft./2m from participants outside of your household, at all times.
  • Masks are not required while skating, but are to be worn when off the ice and physical distancing of at least 6ft./2m. cannot be maintained.
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity.

Lions Park Community Rink
Status: Open for the season

Status: Open for the season. Hours of Operation are 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. (weather dependent). 

Whipper Watson Community Rink
Status: Closed. Opening date TBD.

  • Please note that community skating rinks are operated by community groups and the hours of operation and its uses are managed by the community. 

Indoor Amenities

Community Centre and Lions Hall (200 Doug Duncan Drive)

Elman W. Campbell Museum (134 Main Street South)

Municipal Office (395 Mulock Drive)
Status: Customer Service Centre is open for some in-person services only

Hours of Operation: Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. 

In-person services available:

  • General inquiries
  • Payments for property taxes (by debit) and parking tickets etc.*
  • Assistance with Recreation and Culture program registration / payment* 
  • Purchasing garbage bag tags and large item tags*
  • Marriage licenses and commissioning of documents (issued between 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.)

Please note that the Newmarket is currently only accepting cashless transactions for all payments. 

All other services will continue to be available digitally.
Residents who are seeking assistance with other services are encouraged to email info@newmarket.ca or call 905-895-5193 for more information. 

Information: 

  • Please use the after-hours drop off box, located outside of the Municipal Offices to drop off your cheques for property tax payments. 
  • If you would like to pay cash in person, please do so at your local banking institution. 
  • Alternative forms of service are being provided online and by telephone. For more information, please email info@newmarket.ca or call 905-895-5193. 
Newmarket Public Library (438 Park Avenue)
Status: Open 

  • Open to browse materials, book time on public computer workstations, utilize individual study spaces.

Operations Centre (1275 Maple Hill Court)
Status: Closed to the public 
Public Bathrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: Bathrooms located outside of the Community Centre and Lions Hall are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West)
Status: Reopening January 31

Information:
  • Please note the vaccination clinic at the Ray Twinney Complex will remain open for vaccinations by appointment only. The Inn From the Cold drop by program will also remain open.
