As we begin to reopen more amenities in Town, we will be updating this webpage regularly to ensure the community has the most up-to-date information on what's open and closed, and important information regarding each amenity. View more information on the Province of Ontario's framework for reopening for details.

The health and safety of our community is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the changing COVID-19 landscape, seek guidance from the Province of Ontario and assess each reopening phase carefully with the health and safety of our community a top priority.

The Town of Newmarket in collaboration with York Region Public Health, continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

Users of the Town of Newmarket facilities/buildings/amenities are reminded that the facilities/buildings/amenities are open for use at your own risk. An inherent risk of exposure to communicable diseases including COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. 

By visiting any Town of Newmarket facility/building/amenity you voluntarily assume all risks including any risk of injury, loss, damage, and possible exposure to a communicable disease including COVID-19.

We remind you to follow the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines being recommended by various Canadian health authorities including the York Region Public Health Unit, Ontario Health and Public Health Agency of Canada.

Outdoor Amenities

All Trails and Open Spaces
Status: Open

Information:

  • Recreational use only.
  • No organized sports or league play is not permitted. 
  • Activities like having a picnic, playing catch, frisbee and kicking a soccer ball are allowed as long as everyone follows public health guidelines:

    • Stays at least 6ft. / 2m. away from people outside of their immediate household. 
    • Adheres to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circle. 

Ball Diamonds**
Status: Open

Information: 
  • #3 McKnight Ball Diamond (at the Fairgrounds) will remain closed.
  • Batting Cage at the Fairgrounds is open. 
  • No permits will be issued.
  • No organized sport or league play.
  • Recreational use only.
  • No game play allowed.

Basketball Courts
Status: Open

Information: 
  • No games allowed
  • Stays at least 6ft. / 2m. away from people outside of their immediate household. 
  • Adheres to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circle. 
Boardwalk at the Tom Taylor Trail
Status: Open to one-way traffic only.

Information:

  • Entrance located at the south-end of the boardwalk near the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive).
  • Please adhere to the signage posted in the area. 
  • No passing is allowed on the boardwalk and cycling is not permitted.

Frank Stronach Spray Pad (850 Memorial Circle)
Status: Closed for the Season 

Global Pet Foods Dog Park presented by snapd (Newmarket off-leash dog park)
Status: Open

Information: 

  • Stay at least 6ft./2m. away from other people at all times.
  • Caution! Dog park is icy. Please take extra caution and use at your own risk. 
  • Maximum Capacity: 
    • Large Area: 10
    • Small Area: 5
Gorman Outdoor Pool (424 D'arcy Street)
Status: Closed for the season

Information: Current provincial guidelines around social gatherings and required physical distancing measures cannot be accommodated at this facility.
Municipal Playgrounds**
Status: Open

Information:
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Playgrounds are not supervised and not regularly sanitized. Please remember to wash or/ sanitize your hands before and after visiting the playground.
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the playgrounds is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, residents are asked to travel to another nearby playgrounds or come back later. 

Notes:

  • Mosaic Park Playgrounds remains closed. This playground has not yet been assumed by the Town of Newmarket. 
  • Dr. Margaret Arkinstall Playground remains closed due to the construction of a spray pad. 

Outdoor Fitness Equipment
Status: Open

Information:
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Outdoor Fitness Equipment is not regularly sanitized. Please remember to wash or/ sanitize your hands before and after visiting the amenity.
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the amenity is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, please come back later.  
Outdoor Public Washrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: 
  • Outdoor bathrooms at the Tim Hortons Skating and Water Feature are open when the amenity is open. 
  • Fairy Lake public bathrooms are closed for the season due to a mechanical issue. Please use the portable toilets located in the northern parking lot. 
  • Portable toilets have been placed near the Rogers Spray Pad and the Frank Stronach Spray Pad. 
Pickleball Courts
Status: Open (Please note: Any open pickleball courts are maintained by the community and not by the Town at this time.)

Rogers Spray Pad (170 London Road)
Status: Closed for the season 
Sport Fields**
Status: Open

Information: 
  • Artificial Turf at Dr. Denison Secondary School will remain closed. 
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Recreational use only.
  • No game play allowed.
  • No organized sport or league play.
  • No permits will be issued.
Tennis Courts
Status: Closed
Tim Horton's Water Feature at Riverwalk Commons
Status: Closed for the season

Tim Hortons Outdoor Skating at Riverwalk Commons
Status: Open (Hours of Operation: Monday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.)

Information: Visit newmarket.ca/riverwalkcommons for details.

  • All skaters must register in advance at play.newmarket.ca to participate in outdoor skating
  • Residents can book their spot online one day in advance starting at 9 a.m. 
  • No walk-ins or stand-by spots will be available in an effort to limit crowds gathering at Riverwalk Commons
  • All skaters must wear a mask while waiting in line and while skating on the ice 
  • All skaters must maintain at least 6ft./2m apart from others outside of their household at all times
  • Capacity limits remain at 25 people per skating session

Community Rinks in Newmarket
There are a number of community rinks run by community volunteers in Newmarket. Capacity limits and COVID-19 safety rules apply at all rinks. Skating is on a first-come, first served basis. 

Community rinks include: 
  • Lions Park
  • Ken Sturgeon Park
  • Whipper Watson Park 

Indoor Amenities

Fitness Centre at the Magna Centre
Status: Closed and all programs cancelled as of Monday, December 14 in accordance with the Province's COVID-19 Response Frame Work. York Region including Newmarket is currently in the Grey-Lockdown Zone.

Ice Rinks
Status: Closed and all programs cancelled as of Monday, December 14 in accordance with the Province's COVID-19 Response Frame Work. York Region including Newmarket is currently in the Grey-Lockdown Zone.

Pools
Status: Closed and all programs cancelled as of Monday, December 14 in accordance with the Province's COVID-19 Response Frame Work. York Region including Newmarket is currently in the Grey-Lockdown Zone.
Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive)
Status: Closed and all programs cancelled as of Monday, December 14 in accordance with the Province's COVID-19 Response Frame Work. York Region including Newmarket is currently in the Grey-Lockdown Zone.
Municipal Office (395 Mulock Drive)
Status: Closed

Information: 
  • Please use the after-hours drop off box, located outside of the Municipal Offices to drop off your cheques for property tax payments. 
  • If you would like to pay cash in person, please do so at your local banking institution. 
  • Alternative forms of service are being provided online and by telephone. For more information, please email info@newmarket.ca or call 905-895-5193. 
Newmarket Public Library (438 Park Avenue)
Status: Open 

  • Online and curbside pick-up services are available. Learn more.

Public Bathrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: Bathrooms located outside of the Community Centre and Lions Hall are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West)
Status: Closed and all programs cancelled as of Monday, December 14 in accordance with the Province's COVID-19 Response Frame Work. York Region including Newmarket is currently in the Grey-Lockdown Zone.
Recreation Youth Centre and Sk8 Park (56 Charles Street)
