Welcome

Dear Friends,

Welcome to Home Sweet Home, our virtual Town of Newmarket Recreation & Culture hub. This page is a curated collection of helpful, healthy, educational and fun ideas for the whole family to enjoy while staying at home and social distancing. Town staff are sharing our favourite links and resources to help stay active, healthy and connected at home.  It is just one of the many ways the Town of Newmarket is helping our residents to #flattenthecurve and keep our community engaged until we can once again open our facilities and deliver the great programs and events we all love!

Please check back every week for our new Staff Picks and spotlight.

Stay safe, stay home, stay healthy.

Your Recreation & Culture Team

This week's Spotlights

Did you know that 27% of Newmarket population speaks a mother-tongue language that is neither English nor French? (Based on 2016 Census data) Newmarket is a culturally rich and dynamic community with roots running deep from all parts of the world. We are an integral part of York Region,
which welcomed more than 51,000 recent immigrants between 2001 and 2016, from over 230 distinct ethnic origins, and speaking in over 120 languages! Thursday, May 21, 2020 is UN's World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.  Let us celebrate and learn more about
the various cultures within our community.

Wonderful things happen when cultures meet!  What happens when pop music meets Indian classical music meets American-Indian dancers Poonam & Priyanka?  Watch how these twins have choreographed their classical Indian dance steps to an Indian Raga style musical reinterpretation of Ed Sheeran's "Shape of You".
