Summer Pop Up Recreation Program

Below is a calendar of all our Summer PopUp Program dates and times for the summer. Please click here to print off your PDF copy to keep at home.  Scroll below for details information and some FAQ's about each of the individual PopUps.  We hope to see you out around Town at these activities and look forward to safely engaging with our community during this time.

Kids on the Move Pop up Park Programs

What is Kids on the Move?

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Town of Newmarket Recreation and Culture Department is launching Kids on the Move – Pop Up Park Program which gives children an opportunity to engage and socialize in a safe and friendly atmosphere. Each program is 2 hours in length and geared for ages 6 – 12 years. Staff will lead small groups through a variety of games, sports, arts and crafts, and outdoor activities which are designed for participants to have fun while maintaining physical distancing. Pre-registration is required. 

Please note

  • Participants are encouraged to register once per week as programming will remain the same on a weekly basis. This is to assist in serving as many children in our community as possible.
  • As spots are limited, this program is only open to Newmarket residents at this time. Should this program be open to non-residents at a later date the Town will notify the public.

What Parents Need to Know

  • Parents or caregivers over the age of 16 years must stay on site for the program to assist their child(ren) if needed (e.g. washrooms, first aid requirements, behaviour concerns).
  • Public health guidelines will be in place, including:
  • Screening protocols
  • Physical distancing
  • Small groups (1 staff: 9 children)
  • Pre-registration is required
  • In case of inclement weather or extreme heat, the program will be cancelled, participants will be notified and a refund will be issued. Please ensure an up to date email address is saved to your family account in order to receive notifications.

Participants should bring

  • Water bottle - please label with participants name.
  • Sunscreen - not to be shared with other participants.
  • Hat/Sun Protection
  • Appropriate footwear

Price: $5/day

Age: 6 – 12 Years

Time: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Locations: Kids on the Move will take place in the following locations every Monday, Wednesday and Thursday

  • Monday – Paul Semple Park - 145 Savage Rd, Newmarket, ON L3X 1R3
  • Wednesday – Ken Sturgeon Park - 1035 Lockwood Cir, Newmarket, ON L3X 1N9
  • Thursday - George Richardson Park - Bayview Pkwy Newmarket, ON L3Y 7J5

Safety

  • Small group format – 1 staff: 9 participants
  • Screening protocols for staff and participants will be conducted each day including COVID-19 Screening Questionnaire where physical distancing will be enforced.
  • Physical distancing of 2 metres will be emphasized and enforced, with the exception of staff interventions for behaviour management and issuing first aid where necessary.
  • Parents or caregivers over the age of 16 years must stay on site for the program to assist their child(ren) if needed (e.g. washrooms, first aid requirements, behaviour concerns).
  • Equipment and supplies will be available for each participant's personal use during the program.
  • Following the program, equipment will be sanitized and single use supplies will be thrown away or given to the participants to take home.
  • Hand sanitizer will be available

Wheeling through the summer programs

A drop-in bicycle obstacle course "geared" to beginner/intermediate bicyclists ages 6-10 years with previous riding ability that will provide both skill development whizzing through a variety of course obstacles while challenging riders in a safe and fun environment. Practice skills including balance, control, heads-up riding and safety while peddling, turning and navigating your way through a variety of fun obstacles!

Upon completion of the course (approx. 5-10 mins), cyclers will have increased confidence and knowledge of cycling, all while under the supervision of staff who'll assure safety and fun!


What Parents/Participants need to know:

  • "Wheeling Through The Summer" Bicycle Obstacle Course is a FREE Drop-in program.
  • Recommended for children 6-10 years with previous bicycling experience and demonstrated comfort level riding their bike.   
  • Obstacle course is designed for beginner/intermediate participants and course completion is optional.
  • It is recommended that parents/guardians stay on site for children who require assistance on their bikes.
  • This is not a Learn to Ride program.
  • Course should take participants between 5-10 mins to complete. Take as many turns as you like.
  • Washrooms NOT available.
  • In the event of Thunder/Lightning the program will be cancelled.
  • Please check social media (Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram) for program cancellation notices.


Participants should bring:

  • Personal Water bottle - please label with participants name
  • Sunscreen - not to be shared with other participants
  • Personal bicycle in good working condition
  • Helmet is mandatory (Bike, skate/snowboard/ski and hockey helmets permitted)
  • Appropriate clothing for weather
  • Appropriate footwear. Sandals/flip flops, etc. are not permitted on the course

  • Every Tuesday and Friday at the Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive) south parking lot until August 28 

Safety Measures: COVID-19 social distancing and hygiene measures will be in effect. 
Following all Provincial and Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines, Standard First Aid/CPR certified Town of Newmarket Staff will be on site at all times during program.

Every Wednesday evening in a different park location throughout the wards of Newmarket the Town is hosting family friendly Scavenger hunts in the park, so join in all of them if you wish!            

The Seek n' Search Family Scavenger Hunt is designed to be challenging, yet a fun and exciting way to bring families together to explore their neighbourhood. 

Take a photo of your family participating in this event | Post it to YOUR Social Media | Use hashtag #MyNewmarketSummer | The Town may share it on our Social channels too!


What you need to know:

  • No food or beverages will be provided by the town, attendees are welcome to bring their own food beverage and snacks.
  • Please dress for the weather and bring bug spray if you wish

Photography allowed?
Photos by attendees is permitted, but pictures/video should try to limit your focus to your friends or family members only and NOT those you do not know.

Photos will be taken by Town of Newmarket staff and may be used for promotional purposes.  Please let Staff know upon arrival if you do not want your child(s) photo taken.
