On January 21 the Town of Newmarket launched a Tickets for Takeout incentive program, giving residents the opportunity to have their Newmarket parking ticket cancelled in exchange for takeout from a local restaurant. The program has been initiated to drive residents to support restaurants now until January 31, 2022, while they are closed for indoor dining. Restaurants are set to reopen back to 50 per cent capacity, based on the province's latest announcement.
"Our restaurants have been hit especially hard throughout the pandemic. Myself, members of Council and Town staff are always looking for new ways to work with our community to support our businesses," says Mayor John Taylor. "This is one simple way we can broaden our Choose Local campaign to help drive more revenue to our local businesses to help support them during this challenging time."
How it works:
Newmarket residents who receive a parking ticket from the Town on or between January 21 – January 31, 2022, can have their ticket cancelled if they provide a receipt from a Newmarket restaurant in an amount equal to or greater than the parking set fine.
The restaurant receipt must be dated after, and within 5 calendar days of the ticket issuance date, not before.
If you are a resident of Newmarket and receive a parking ticket between these dates, you can simply:
- Email email@example.com and provide your:
- Ticket number,
- proof of residency (e.g. Driver's License, utility or tax bill)
- photo of your receipt from a Newmarket restaurant.
Must be submitted by: February 7, 2022
- Your ticket will be cancelled and you will receive confirmation of this via email.
Visit newmarket.ca/parking for more information.
Tickets for accessible spaces, fire routes, and obstructions (e.g. blocking a driveway, parking on sidewalk) will not be eligible in this incentive program.
In response to the ongoing closures and capacity limits, the Town drew inspiration from nearby municipalities to launch the initiative as a small step in its broader Choose Local campaign.
Residents looking to support local restaurants, shops or services can visit the Choose Local directory to spend close to home.
