Warm weather is here and that means more outdoor events and opportunities to get out in the community, or take a short drive to check out what’s happening in Newmarket, one of Ontario’s top event destinations, as recognized by Festivals & Events Ontario.
The Town of Newmarket will be hosting an array of free events for all ages from May to August. We will be bringing back the Community Cleanup, Touch a Truck, the well-known and much-loved TD Newmarket Music Series, Splash of Culture and more throughout the spring and summer months. Executive Gallery Art Exhibit: Peace and Unity
Date: Monday to Friday, April 24 to July 13, 2023

The Peace and Unity art exhibit features artwork created by members of the Newmarket Group of Artists, with pieces that evoke feelings of peace or the concept of unity. An exhibit will also be hosted from July 22 to October 19 at the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive).

Want to learn how to create a triple folding pocket from scrapbooking paper or design your own mini museum exhibit? The Elman W. Campbell Museum is hosting a variety of events for people of all ages for Museum Month in May. This offers an opportunity to celebrate Newmarket’s heritage and culture, as well as the contributions of museums to our communities. Community Cleanup

Cost: Free
Help keep Newmarket clean and green. Visit the selected park in your ward to pick up your free Cleanup Kit (while quantities last) on May 6, or grab a kit at Customer Service (Municipal Offices, Ray Twinney Recreation Complex and Magna Centre) from May 7 to 21 (while quantities last). Participants are invited to clean up at a time and location of their choosing. High school students can earn up to three hours of community service.

Central York Fire Services Car Wash
Date: Saturday, May 13, 2023

Location: Station 4-5 (300 Earl Stewart Drive, Aurora), enter through the second laneway on Isaacson Crescent
Cost: Donate what you can to support United Way
Come get your car washed and help fight poverty in your neighbourhood. Stop by the new Central York Fire Services (CYFS) Station 4-5 on Saturday, May 13 from noon to 5 p.m. to get your car washed by local firefighters in exchange for a ‘pay what you can’ donation to United Way locally.
Members of the Central York Professional Firefighters Association (CYPFFA) have volunteered their time to host this fundraising initiative to support the United Way which is committed to fighting local poverty.

Touch a Truck

This free, fun, hands-on event allows you to touch, explore and get up close and personal with a variety of different vehicles that are used by the municipality to maintain our roads, parks, facilities and protect the community in case of emergency. Explore some of your favourite trucks such as a fire truck, Zamboni, backhoe, dump truck and more! Meals are available for purchase from a local food truck, but a free ice cream cone is on us!

Night Market

The Newmarket Group of Artists and the Town of Newmarket have partnered to present the inaugural Night Market, a new outdoor event that combines an art show and sale, food, drink and live music. Pride Month Art Exhibit

This June, the Town is hosting its first Pride Month Art Exhibit featuring artworks that celebrate “Love is Love” and focus on self-acceptance, relationship, and the power of community. Join us at Old Town Hall for the opening reception for the Pride Month Art Exhibit on June 3 at 1 p.m.
Call for artists: All artists that identify as being part of the LGBTQ2S+ community (aged 14 years and older) are welcome to submit an application. Artists are encouraged to submit original artworks that interpret or relate to the exhibition’s theme of “Love Is Love”. The Town is accepting artist applications until May 12.

Busk Till Dusk

Every Friday and Saturday evening this summer, street performers will showcase their talent on Main Street Newmarket. Busking brings a variety of performance art forms to the street, offering close-up entertainment for a tip in the hat which goes to support the entertainers themselves, and provides a sense of energy and buzz to the area.

Join the Town of Newmarket on Canada Day for a fun filled day! From 11 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., join us at Riverwalk Commons (200 Duncan Drive) for a daytime concert and festival where you can enjoy rides on the Tim Hortons Express Train, facepainting, food vendors, entertainment, Main Street festivities and more! Make sure to stop by George Richardson Park (Bayview Parkway) from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. for music by the Newmarket Citizen’s Band, a concert featuring Switchbeat and fireworks.

TD Newmarket Music Series

Cost: Free admission (attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to the Newmarket Food Pantry)
Join use every Thursday evening from July 6 to August 24 for a free tribute band concert at Riverwalk Commons. Each concert will feature amazing local performers and a premier tribute band. Make sure to check out the FREE Mercedes-Benz Newmarket Backstage Lounge and watch the concert on our large backstage LED screen from the comfort of a Muskoka chair. This is a highly-attended event; arrive early to secure a spot and remember to bring your own chair. Food and drink vendors will be back again this season. Stay tuned for the lineup announcement in mid-May!
Moonlight Movies presented by TD

Be sure to join the Town of Newmarket throughout the month of August for Moonlight Movies presented by TD, taking place at various parks throughout town. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and watch a movie under the stars on a large inflatable screen.

Splash of Culture

Join us for an evening of performances showcasing original music. You’ll experience art, water and music colliding into a dazzling evening under the stars in a unique setting as we transform the Mercedes-Benz Newmarket Water Feature into a beautifully lit stage complete with a baby grand piano. Tables and seating will be available on a first come, first served basis. Bringing your own seating is also permitted. Food and beverage will be available for cash purchase.
