Council and Administration of the Town of Newmarket endeavor to provide municipal services governed by appropriate policies and procedures that affect the Newmarket community, municipal programming and operations, and employees, both current and future, to sustain being a well beyond the ordinary community. Policies that support employees in achieving their mission, Making Newmarket even better, improve our accountability, transparency, responsiveness, inclusiveness, effectiveness, efficiency, participation, compliance, consensus, sustainability and openness to the public. Implementing policies and procedures that reflect sound and accountable governance align with the Strategic Plan direction of Well-Equipped and Managed.

Town Council is responsible for establishing, revising, rescinding, and approving policy affecting members of Council and the Newmarket community. The approval authority of all other corporate policies that are administrative in nature affecting municipal programs, operations and employees, are the responsibility of the Chief Administrative Officer.

Town Council may also establish policy statements or directives as an organizational priority to provide direction in a key area of focus, service delivery or as a policy of Council.
