This holiday season, the Town of Newmarket is launching the Choose Local campaign. This campaign asks residents to choose to support local businesses that have been impacted by COVID-19.
Our goal is to help connect local consumers to Newmarket products, services and activities. Through our Choose Local Directory, all types of businesses will be searchable by gift category, sector, COVID-19 safety measures and more. The Choose Local Directory is only one piece of a multi-faceted campaign including print and social media advertising and a contest!
To participate in the Choose Local Directory, please complete this form with as much detail as possible. The data will be reviewed by a Town of Newmarket staff person prior to being added to the interactive business directory website.
Keep an eye out for our Choose Local social media campaign and encourage your customers to participate for the chance to win great prizes and to encourage others to choose local.
Getting Ready for Online Shoppers - Grants Available
If you don't have an online store yet, it's time to consider one for the holiday season. A recent study shows that 57% of buyers are seeking out local, independently owned businesses to support. The same study also found that 81% of shoppers plan to online shop through to the end of 2020. An online store for your small business is the perfect way to continue to serve your customers. Currently there are three grant programs available to assist businesses with improving their online presence.
ShopHere: This program is a partnership between the Province of Ontario, Google, Shopify and participating municipalities to enable businesses to set up an easy to use e-commerce website free of charge. Participating businesses will work with an expert to build an e-commerce website and will receive three free months on Shopify.
Canada United Small Business Relief Fund: This program provides up to $5,000 in grant funding for small businesses to implement physical distancing measures, purchase personal protective equipment (PPE) and increase their digital capacity through e-commerce and websites. Applications for the second round of funding opened on October 26, 2020.
Re3 Women's Entrepreneurship Grant: This program provides up to $5,000 in funding to woman led small businesses who need assistance purchasing personal protective equipment, implementing social distancing measures or upgrading or expanding their digital capacity including e-commerce websites.
