Newmarket's Approach to Reopening

As the Province of Ontario carries out its reopening plan, the Town of Newmarket continues to take a slow and cautious approach with the health and safety of our community our top priority. We will continue to monitor the changing COVID-19 landscape, seek guidance from the Province of Ontario and assess each reopening phase carefully.

The Town will gradually reopen more recreational outdoor amenities as restrictions are lifted. Staff will be performing necessary maintenance work to ensure these areas are safe for use, in addition to posting updated signage. Thank you for your patience as we work through each reopening phase. To see what's currently open and closed, please visit our Reopen webpage.

View more information on the Province of Ontario's framework for reopening.

Practice Social / Physical Distancing

Do your part and help break the chain of transmission. Practice social and physical distancing. Stay at least 6ft. (2m. apart) from other people to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

How Newmarket is prepared

The Town of Newmarket declared a State of Emergency in response to COVID-19 on March 18, 2020. This declaration is not to incite panic but to encourage action and allow the Town to dedicate more resources to respond to COVID-19. You can learn more about what this means and why this declaration was made by visiting our State of Emergency webpage.

The Town continues to work closely with York Region Health to monitor for cases of COVID-19 (formerly known as the novel coronavirus) in Newmarket. York Region Health is also collaborating with local hospitals, emergency services and other health agencies to ensure prompt reporting and follow up of all individuals who may require testing for COVID-19.

The health and safety of all Newmarket residents and our patrons are our top priority. As a precaution, the Town is engaged in higher frequency cleaning and disinfection of high-touch points. These measures have been taken in support of the Province of Ontario's direction to facilitate social distancing to protect staff and residents from the spread of COVID-19.

The Town will also notify the public of future cancellations, openings and updates through:
