Newmarket's Approach to Reopening

As the Province of Ontario carries out its reopening plan, the Town of Newmarket continues to take a slow and cautious approach with the health and safety of our community our top priority. We will continue to monitor the changing COVID-19 landscape, seek guidance from the Province of Ontario and assess each reopening phase carefully.

The Town will gradually reopen more recreational outdoor amenities as restrictions are lifted. Staff will be performing necessary maintenance work to ensure these areas are safe for use, in addition to posting updated signage. Thank you for your patience as we work through each reopening phase. To see what's currently open and closed, please visit our Reopen webpage.

Practice Social / Physical Distancing

Do your part and help break the chain of transmission. Practice social and physical distancing. Stay at least 6ft. (2m. apart) from other people to help limit the spread of COVID-19.

How Newmarket is prepared

On March 18, 2020, the Town of Newmarket declared a State of Emergency in response to COVID-19. This declaration allowed the Town of Newmarket to dedicate more resources to respond to COVID-19. Due to high vaccination rates, and lower COVID-19 numbers, the Town officially lifted the State of Emergency on August 9, 2021. Learn more by viewing more information on the termination of the State of Emergency.

The Town continues to work closely with York Region Health to monitor for cases of COVID-19 in Newmarket. York Region Health is also collaborating with local hospitals, emergency services and other health agencies to ensure prompt reporting and follow up of all individuals who may require testing for COVID-19.

The health and safety of all Newmarket residents and our patrons are our top priority. Stay connected with the Town of Newmarket by visiting this webpage, staying informed with our local media and through the Town's social media channels onTwitter @TownofNewmarket and on Facebook @TownofNewmarket.
