As we begin to reopen more amenities in Town, we will be updating this webpage regularly to ensure the community has the most up-to-date information on what's open and closed, and important information regarding each amenity. 

The health and safety of our community is our top priority. We will continue to monitor the changing COVID-19 landscape, seek guidance from the Province of Ontario and assess each reopening phase carefully with the health and safety of our community a top priority.

Assumption of Risk

The Town of Newmarket in collaboration with York Region Public Health, continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation.

Users of the Town of Newmarket facilities/buildings/amenities are reminded that the facilities/buildings/amenities are open for use at your own risk. An inherent risk of exposure to communicable diseases including COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present. 

By visiting any Town of Newmarket facility/building/amenity you voluntarily assume all risks including any risk of injury, loss, damage, and possible exposure to a communicable disease including COVID-19.

We remind you to follow the COVID-19 precautionary guidelines being recommended by various Canadian health authorities including the York Region Public Health Unit, Ontario Health and Public Health Agency of Canada.

Outdoor Amenities

All Trails and Open Spaces
Status: Open

Information:

  • Recreational use only.
  • No organized sports or league play is not permitted. 
  • Activities like having a picnic, playing catch, frisbee and kicking a soccer ball are allowed as long as everyone follows public health guidelines:

    • Stays at least 6ft. / 2m. away from people outside of their immediate household. 
    • Adheres to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circle. 

Ball Diamonds**
Status: Open

Information: 
  • #3 McKnight Ball Diamond (at the Fairgrounds) will remain closed.
  • Batting Cage at the Fairgrounds is open. 
  • No permits will be issued.
  • No organized sport or league play.
  • Recreational use only.
  • No game play allowed.

Basketball Courts
Status: Open

Information: 
  • No games allowed
  • Stays at least 6ft. / 2m. away from people outside of their immediate household. 
  • Adheres to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circle. 
Boardwalk at the Tom Taylor Trail
Status: Open to one-way traffic only.

Information:

  • Entrance located at the south-end of the boardwalk near the Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive).
  • Please adhere to the signage posted in the area. 
  • No passing is allowed on the boardwalk and cycling is not permitted.

Frank Stronach Spray Pad (850 Memorial Circle)
Status: Closed for the Season 

Global Pet Foods Dog Park presented by snapd (Newmarket off-leash dog park)
Status: Open

Information: 

  • Stay at least 6ft./2m. away from other people at all times.
  • Maximum Capacity: 
    • Large Area: 20
    • Small Area: 10
Gorman Outdoor Pool (424 D'arcy Street)
Status: Closed for the season

Information: Current provincial guidelines around social gatherings and required physical distancing measures cannot be accommodated at this facility.
Municipal Playgrounds**
Status: Open

Information:
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Playgrounds are not supervised and not regularly sanitized. Please remember to wash or/ sanitize your hands before and after visiting the playground.
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the playgrounds is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, residents are asked to travel to another nearby playgrounds or come back later. 

Notes:

  • Mosaic Park Playgrounds remains closed. This playground has not yet been assumed by the Town of Newmarket. 
  • Dr. Margaret Arkinstall Playground remains closed due to the construction of a spray pad. 

Outdoor Fitness Equipment
Status: Open

Information:
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Outdoor Fitness Equipment is not regularly sanitized. Please remember to wash or/ sanitize your hands before and after visiting the amenity.
  • Be courteous and share this space with others. Limit your time and ensure others have a chance to use the amenity. If the amenity is busy, and physical distancing is not possible, please come back later.  
Outdoor Public Washrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: 
  • Outdoor bathrooms at the Tim Hortons Skating and Water Feature are open when the amenity is open. 
  • Fairy Lake public bathrooms are closed for the season due to a mechanical issue. Please use the portable toilets located in the northern parking lot. 
  • Portable toilets have been placed near the Rogers Spray Pad and the Frank Stronach Spray Pad. 
Pickleball Courts
Status: Open

Information: 
  • Share this space with the community. Please limit your play time to 45 minutes or less.
  • Must practice safe physical distancing at all times. Stay at least 6ft./2m. away from others.
  • Follow social gathering and social bubble rules, as set out by the Province of Ontario. 

Rogers Spray Pad (170 London Road)
Status: Closed for the season 
Sport Fields**
Status: Open

Information: 
  • Artificial Turf at Dr. Denison Secondary School will remain closed. 
  • Must adhere to the Province of Ontario's emergency orders around social gatherings and social circles.
  • Recreational use only.
  • No game play allowed.
  • No organized sport or league play.
  • No permits will be issued.
Tennis Courts
Status: Open

Information:
  • Share this space with the community. Please limit your play time to 45 minutes or less.
  • Must practice safe physical distancing at all times. Stay at least 6ft./2m. away from others.
  • Follow social gathering and social bubble rules, as set out by the Province of Ontario. 


Indoor Amenities

Fitness Centre at the Magna Centre
Status: Closed as of Monday, October 19 for 28 days under the Province's orders

Information: 

Ice Rinks
Status: Four ice rinks open with modified capacity restrictions (max 10 people)

Information: 

  • No games are permitted as of Monday, October 19 for 28 days under the Province's orders.
  • Change rooms are unavailable.
  • Two ice rinks at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex and two ice rinks at the Magna Centre are open for use by minor sport clubs. Request for private use may send to ice@newmarket.ca to be considered at a future date. 

Pools
Status: Open at the Magna Centre with modified capacity restrictions (max 10 people)

Information: 
  • Magna Centre Pool: Open for Lane Swim, Aqua Fitness and Public Swim. Learn more at newmarket.ca/swimming.
  • Entrance to the Magna Pool is on the east side of the Magna Centre only.
  • Public Swim,  Lane Swim and Aqua Fitness time slots must be booked in advance at play.newmarket.ca.
  • New health and safety procedures are in place to ensure the safety of everyone during the COVID-19 pandemic. Learn more at newmarket.ca/swimming.
Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive)
Status: Some amenities open
  • Public Swim
  • Lane Swim
  • Aqua Fitness (open as of October 26) 
  • Ice rinks for use by specific user groups 
Information: 
  • There will be designated entrances and exits for each amenity. All visitors will be subject to a health screening protocol. 
  • Two ice rinks at the Magna Centre are open for rentals by specific user groups only. Contact ice@newmarket.ca for more information. No games are permitted as of Monday, October 19 for 28 days under the Province's orders.
  • Magna Fitness Centre is closed as of Monday, October 19 for 28 days under the Province's orders. Visit newmarket.ca/fitness for more information. 
  • The Magna Centre pool is open for Lane Swim and Public Swim.
Municipal Office (395 Mulock Drive)
Status: Closed

Information: 
  • Please use the after-hours drop off box, located outside of the Municipal Offices to drop off your cheques for property tax payments. 
  • If you would like to pay cash in person, please do so at your local banking institution. 
  • Alternative forms of service are being provided online and by telephone. For more information, please email info@newmarket.ca or call 905-895-5193. 
Newmarket Public Library (438 Park Avenue)
Status: Open with limited in-person services.

  • Online and curbside pick-up services still available. Learn more.

Public Bathrooms
Status: Some open 

Information: Bathrooms located outside of the Community Centre and Lions Hall are open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West)
Status: Two ice pads are open for minor sports league use only with modified capacity restrictions (max 10 people)

Information: 
  • Two ice rinks at the Ray Twinney Recreation Complex are open for use by minor sport clubs. Request for private use may send to ice@newmarket.ca to be considered at a future date
  • No games are permitted as of Monday, October 19 for 28 days under the Province's orders.
Recreation Youth Centre and Sk8 Park (56 Charles Street)
Status: Only the Skate Park is open with modified capacity restrictions (max 10 people)
  

Information:

  • The indoor skate park at the Newmarket Recreation Youth Centre and Sk8 Park is open Tuesday to Friday from 4 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. and Saturdays from 1 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Individuals are encouraged to reserve their spot in advance. Reservations can be made online at play.newmarket.ca.
