"The data collected is used for some very important purposes such as to help us plan for future employment, location of public institutions as well as get a clearer idea of the needs of the community." says Mayor John Taylor "Each community has a unique makeup of people and are constantly evolving, it's important that we have a fulsome picture of that so we as Council and Staff can continue to build one of the best communities in all of Canada."
The census is an important part of Canadian identity, dating back to 1666 and has become our country's primary source of sociodemographic data, and the information collected is used to support programs and communities across the country.
Statistics Canada has taken all necessary measures to conduct a safe census that will enable Canadians to tell their story and provide vital information that contributes to the strength of our country and our communities. It is important that everyone is included in the changing portrait of our nation. The census information helps governments make more informed decisions and policies that will impact future infrastructure, transportation, and culture decisions.
