  • 3 Ways to Take Care of Your Mental Health

    Created: Tuesday, January 25, 2022

Mental health is a challenging process to deal with. Everyone goes through it at some point in their lives and more often than not, we don't give it the attention it needs. Know you're not alone and the road gets better. Your mental health is just as important as your physical health.

Making sure your mental health is at the right place isn't an easy process, but with the right tips and tricks you can take those not so great days and turn them into better ones. Follow these tips below to help you take care of your mental health.

    1. Go outside for a walk on one of the York Regional Trails - York Region's extensive network of trails and forests are among the Region's most cherished attractions. Born of ancient routes used by First Nations, the trail network now extends throughout each of the nine cities and towns. Trail explorers can choose between paved urban trails or rugged forest paths. Hikers will be amazed at the diverse landscape, wildlife, and vegetation waiting to be appreciated. Explore the Oak Ridges Moraine Trail, kettle lakes, wetlands, forests, and a variety of other points of interest. Get out and enjoy nature and fresh air!

    2. Take time to laugh – You know the saying "laughter is the best form of medicine," and getting a good laugh can reduce anxiety and let you feel at ease. Watch your favourite comedy movie, show, comedian or some classic cat videos.

    3. Try Something New – You probably wanted to try that new hobby at some point. Painting? Photography? Poems? Learning an instrument? Experimenting with different creative hobbies can not only make you discovery a new passion, but it also gives you an outlet to let out emotions or thoughts that you should try (as best you can) to not keep bottled up. Check out some recreation programs offered by the Town to get you started!

Remember its ok to not be ok. There is no shame in seeking help, opening up, or taking personal time for yourself. You are not alone in this and don't need to take it on alone. This is a collective endeavor with an entire Town cheering you on! 🎉
