The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority has issued a Watershed Conditions Statement in effect until January 12. Rainfall amounts of 10–15 mm is forecasted for January 8, with an additional 5–10 mm expected on January 9. On Saturday, January 10, a further 5–15 mm of precipitation is anticipated, falling as rain or a mix of rain and snow.
While widespread flooding is not expected, the possibility for flooding in various low-lying areas of the watershed exists the forecasted rainfall may result in flooding of low-lying areas due to the expected rainfall and melting of the snowpack. There is also the potential for ice breakup in some areas resulting from melting and increased flows. All watercourses in our area will experience higher than normal water levels and flows. As a result, local streams and rivers will become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.
