As of January 1, 2019, the Towns of Aurora, Georgina and Newmarket will merge their animal services. This merger is a two year pilot project, that will allow the three municipalities to work together to provide a higher level of animal services and extended coverage. Officers will work together to provide animal services coverage seven-days-a-week, across three municipalities. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (OSPCA) will still provide support to the municipalities to investigate concerns of animal neglect and abuse. This type of animal services partnership is the first of its kind in Ontario, as most municipalities manage animal control independently.
