  • 30-minute parking on Main Street extended until September

    Created: Wednesday, June 17, 2020

30-minute parking on Main Street extended until September

In early May, the Town of Newmarket temporarily amended the parking restrictions on Main Street by imposing a 30-minute maximum parking limit to accommodate curbside pickup and delivery. The Town has extended the 30-minute parking on Main Street until September 21  to continue to allow for convenient curbside pickup until the first Council meeting in September 21. However, as the COVID-19 landscape continues to change, this amendment may be brought back to Council earlier for discussion.

This applies to the east and west side of Main Street from Water Street to Davis Drive. Residents who are not using curbside pickup/delivery are asked to use other downtown parking spaces, such as the lot around Market Square (P5-6) and east of Main Street around the Lion's Club (P3) and Riverwalk Commons (P1 & P7) shown in the parking guide.

Bylaw Officers are continuing to enforce these new parking restrictions to ensure spaces are available to both shoppers and businesses. Signs have been posted and Officers will be out educating residents about the change. Repeat offenders can face fines starting at $40.

Limiting and stopping the spread of COVID-19 in Newmarket continues to be the Town's top priority while also following the Province's lead to cautiously restart our economy. Residents are encouraged to shop locally while practicing physical distancing and following the safety steps put in place by retailers. Please refrain from making a pick-up and self-isolate if you have any potential COVID-19 symptoms (check Ontario's self-assessment tool).
