Notice of Interim Control Bylaw (2020-35) Extension
On June 29, Newmarket Council decided to make an amendment to the Interim Control By-Law 2019-04. As a result, this Interim Control Bylaw will be extended for 6 months until January 21, 2021, unless repealed by Council at an earlier date.
The purpose of the Interim Control Bylaw is to limit new residential construction in certain areas, except for those developments exempted from the by-law, in order to allow staff to undertake a comprehensive neighbourhood compatibility study and update policies in the Official Plan and zoning by-law that will assist in maintaining the existing character of the neighbourhood.
Under this bylaw, properties in certain areas cannot increase the Gross Floor Area of the existing dwelling by 25% or more and/or increase the height of the dwelling. New properties also cannot be built on existing vacant lots during this time.
