Community Walk in Recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
On Tuesday, September 29, Town of Newmarket and York Region staff, and community members are invited to a Truth and Reconciliation Walk at Fairy Lake from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The event will begin with remarks from Lauri Hoeg and Elder Jan Beaver, followed by a community walk in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Flag Raising for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
Flags at all Newmarket buildings and facilities will be at half-mast, and tonight, lights at the Fred A. Lundy Bridge will be lit orange to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
On September 30 we reflect and honour the lost children and Survivors of residential schools, their families, and communities. Today and every day, #Newmarket continues to remember those who lost their lives and those who survived the traumatic, terrible, and agonizing history of the residential school system. We are committed to learning and doing more to move forward on a path towards reconciliation.
