Council envisions the South of Davis Area’s future
Council discussed the vision for the future of the South of Davis Area (SODA) during a Council Workshop. Encompassing the area from Simcoe Street to Millard Avenue between Niagara Street and the railway corridor, SODA will thrive as a dynamic centre for culture, business, tourism, social services and entertainment.
SODA is located within the Town’s historic downtown centre and the primary goal is to encourage growth that will revitalize the historic downtown while protecting and enhancing the rich history of the area.
As part of the Town’s Official Plan Review, the SODA study will inform a policy framework that will guide land use, built form, improvements to the public realm, cultural heritage and more.
Get involved! If you visit, live or work in Newmarket, you have an opportunity to help plan for the future of the community. Join the Town of Newmarket for two upcoming drop-in style open house meetings for SODA. Members of the public and participants will be invited to view the vision, guiding principles, policy directions, as well as three land use, built form, and open space development scenarios for the area on display boards.

Council explores driveway windrow clearing solutions
Recognizing the significant amount of snow received in February, Council thanked Town staff for their around-the-clock snow clearing efforts and discussed opportunities for future seasons.
Council has directed Town staff to explore options for clearing driveway windrows (the pile of snow that forms at the end of a driveway after the plow goes by) during winter snow events. This will include reviewing best practices from other GTA municipalities and identifying feasible options.
Staff will also assess the financial and operational impact of various approaches, considering factors such as municipal budgets, user fees, government grants, and community partnerships.
A report with findings and recommendations will be presented to Council later this year, with the goal of potentially piloting a solution before the next winter season.
Newmarket Public Library launches “Library on the Go” book kiosks
Council celebrated the launch of the Newmarket Library’s “Library on the Go” kiosks at two Twon facilities. This new initiative comes as part of the Library’s mission to “discover anything and everywhere” by providing Library services to the community and getting outside the four walls of the Library. With a collection of more than 150 books to choose from, these convenient kiosks are easily accessed with a Newmarket Library card.
Find the new kiosks at:
- Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive)
- Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street West)

Council reminds residents how to provide public input
Community engagement is one the reasons why Newmarket continues to be one of the best places to live, work and visit. Community members are encouraged to continue to share their input on Town initiatives and programs.
