Extreme Heat Expected this Canada Day – Let's work together to enjoy a safe, cool and comfortable Festival!

Weather Specialists are calling for an extreme heat event for the Canada Day long weekend, with daytime highs expected to reach the low to mid thirties with humidex values into the mid forties. Overnight low temperatures will only fall to the mid-twenties, providing little or no relief from the heat.

It's going to be a hot one!

We want you to enjoy the day and with the hot weather on the horizon we wanted to share this news with you to help you stay comfortable and healthy!

Here's a checklist to help you prepare for the day outdoors:

Water Bottle Filling Fountains at the Community Centre:

The Community Centre now houses 2 Water Bottle Filling Fountains, and we suspect these will be busy!

Fountain Locations:

Station 1:  Outside near the entranceway / doors to Community Centre

Station 2: Inside the Community Centre – in the hallway to the left of the entranceway, near the rest rooms.

Vendors will be selling bottled water on site.

The Town will have bottles of water available as well and understandably we are trying as much as possible to reduce the amount of recycling material this will create.

Wanting to be eco conscious as well as providing hydration as a safety precaution for our community, we ask that you please keep your plastic bottle for the duration of the day while at the event and refill it at one of our two Water Bottle Filling Stations. When finished with your water for the day, we ask that you kindly dispose of your plastic water bottle in one of the many Blue Bins in and around the Riverwalk area.

Shaded Areas:

The Beer Garden will house two large tents in their area (entry is 19+ years of age)

Two misting tents will be available for the public to visit and cool off, one located at the North Parking Lot, the other south of Timothy Street.

There will be four canopies near The Tim Hortons Skating and Water Feature

And the Community Centre will be open during the entire Festival as well if you need to get out of the sun and have a seat indoors to cool off and relax.

Cool Off Indoors:

Please note that the Community Centre will be open during the entire Festival to provide relief from the outdoors.

Tables and chairs will be set up inside Hall 4 from 11am-4pm and Halls 1 & 2 from noon-4pm at the Community Centre as it will be an event Town Cooling Station.

Hall 4 will also host a Heat Recovery Station.

Heat Recovery Station:

If you or someone you are with is experiencing some duress as a result of the heat, we recommend you visit the Canadian Ski Patrol Tent or go to the Community Centre, Hall #4 as it will be set up to assist people requiring  a  cooler place where they may lay down.  Please alert a Town of Newmarket staff member or Emergency personnel (Fire, Police, Canadian Ski Patrol) as they can also assist.

First Aid:

First Aid stations will be located at the Event Information Booth on the Northwest corner of Timothy St. and Doug Duncan Dr. as well as at the Canadian Ski Patrol tent located in South Riverwalk, on Doug Duncan Drive.

If  you're not feeling well you can identify a Town of Newmarket staff member in a blue shirt or an Event Volunteer in a yellow safety vest and they will direct you to the closest first aid location.

Evening Entertainment & Fireworks:

It's not expected to get too much cooler – approximately mid 20's, so please continue to stay hydrated and fed throughout the day and dressed accordingly for a very warm, humid summer's evening of live entertainment and firework festivities at George Richardson Park.

There are no indoor facilities to cool off at George Richardson Park – staff will be available at the Event Information Booth beside the stage trailer to provide first aid treatment if needed.

Please plan for the hot weather and keep yourself safe and cool and pace yourself outdoors – the Festival runs from 11 am to 4pm – so plenty of time to "soak" it all in!
