On December 21, 2020 and effective December 26, 2020 Premier Ford announced Province-wide lockdown restrictions effective December 26, 2020 for a minimum of 28 days or until further notice. All previously noted changes below pertaining to Grey Zone restrictions and protocols in York Region remain in effect.
Previously, on Friday, December 11, 2020 and effective December 14, 2020 Premier Ford announced that York Region, including Newmarket, will be entering 'lockdown' (grey zone) of the Province's COVID-19 Response Framework.
In response to this announcement, all Town of Newmarket buildings, facilities and in-person programs will be closed/cancelled as of Tuesday, December 26 with the exception of the Newmarket Public Library.
Recreation facilities and in-person drop in programming will resume operation pending further COVID-19 developments and in accordance with all health and safety regulations as outlined by the Province and York Region Health. This announcement does not impact or cancel any VIRTUAL programs currently running.
Outdoor skating at Riverwalk Commons will be open as scheduled, with strict health and safety measures and capacity limits in place. Participants are required to pre-book their skate time in advance, learn more at newmarket.ca/riverwalkcommons
Newmarket trails, parks and playgrounds will remain open and residents are encouraged to use them while following all health and safety measures as outlined by the province.
The Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive), Robert N. Shelton Operation Centre (1275 Maple Hill Court) and Central York Fire Services (CYFS) remain closed to the public for in-person services. We continue to offer alternative ways to serve the community.

Fitness Centre:
We are also pleased to let you know that our previous fitness operation exceeded the measures set forth and will fully comply with all of the new measures developed as part of the new provincial response plan. So, you will be able to access and experience your work out in the same manner you were just a few short weeks ago.
Group Fitness:
Group Fitness classes has resumed as of Monday, November 23rd, 2020. Classes are taking place within our Tim Horton's gymnasium. Classes are limited to 10 participants per class. Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
What's New:
- Fitness Centre: We have added an early morning Workout Session from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
- Workout Sessions are now 1 hour in duration
- 170 additional workout sessions have been added each week!
- No in person drop in's are permitted with no exceptions
- One (1) session per day per amenity is requested due to the limited availability at this time
Swimming (Included in Fitness Centre Membership):

The Magna Pool will remain open to the public for Lane Swim, Public Swim & Aqua Fitness with reduced capacity. Residents are still asked to reserve their spot with their Fitness Centre Membership or pay online using the Pay as you Go Fees.. To reserve your spot visit: play.newmarket.ca
Pool / Swimming Pay as you Go Fees:
- Children up to 4 years old $1.25/ per swim
- Members 5 years old and up $3/per swim
- Aqua Fitness $5/class.
