Updated December 21, 2020 – Effective December 26, 2020:  

On December 21, 2020 and effective December 26, 2020 Premier Ford announced Province-wide lockdown restrictions effective December 26, 2020 for a minimum of 28 days or until further notice. All previously noted changes below pertaining to Grey Zone restrictions and protocols in York Region remain in effect. 

Previously, on Friday, December 11, 2020 and effective December 14, 2020 Premier Ford announced that York Region, including Newmarket, will be entering 'lockdown' (grey zone) of the Province's COVID-19 Response Framework.

In response to this announcement, all Town of Newmarket buildings, facilities and in-person programs will be closed/cancelled as of Tuesday, December 26 with the exception of the Newmarket Public Library.

Recreation facilities and in-person drop in programming will resume operation pending further COVID-19 developments and in accordance with all health and safety regulations as outlined by the Province and York Region Health. This announcement does not impact or cancel any VIRTUAL programs currently running.

Outdoor skating at Riverwalk Commons will be open as scheduled, with strict health and safety measures and capacity limits in place. Participants are required to pre-book their skate time in advance, learn more at newmarket.ca/riverwalkcommons

Newmarket trails, parks and playgrounds will remain open and residents are encouraged to use them while following all health and safety measures as outlined by the province.

The Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive), Robert N. Shelton Operation Centre (1275 Maple Hill Court) and Central York Fire Services (CYFS) remain closed to the public for in-person services. We continue to offer alternative ways to serve the community.

Fitness Centre: 

We are also pleased to let you know that our previous fitness operation exceeded the measures set forth and will fully comply with all of the new measures developed as part of the new provincial response plan.  So, you will be able to access and experience your work out in the same manner you were just a few short weeks ago. 

Group Fitness: 

Group Fitness classes has resumed as of Monday, November 23rd, 2020.  Classes are taking place within our Tim Horton's gymnasium. Classes are limited to 10 participants per class. Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca


What's New:

  • Fitness Centre: We have added an early morning Workout Session from 6:00 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. Monday through Friday.
  • Workout Sessions are now 1 hour in duration
  • 170 additional workout sessions have been added each week!
  • No in person drop in's are permitted with no exceptions
  • One (1) session per day per amenity is requested due to the limited availability at this time

The Magna Pool will remain open to the public for Lane Swim, Public Swim & Aqua Fitness with reduced capacity. Residents are still asked to reserve their spot with their Fitness Centre Membership or pay online using the Pay as you Go Fees.. To reserve your spot visit: play.newmarket.ca

Safety measures in place


What you need to do when using our facilities
  • Physical distancing of 3 metres is required at all times.
  • All members and staff are to follow the provincial self-assessment guidelines outlined by public health officials
  • All patrons in the facility will need to conduct a health screening upon arrival and assumption of risk (walk in only) upon arrival at the facility.
  • Sanitize your hands frequently.
  • Masks are required when entering the facility, in common areas, lobbies, washrooms, and hallways.
  • All users of the Fitness Centre will be required to wear a mask/face covering at all times, with the exception of when you are actively using any of
  • our cardio pieces of equipment.
  • Identified entry and exit points as indicated by signage and markers must be followed
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment AFTER each use. To make this convenient spray bottles have been replaced with new Certainty™ Disinfectant Wipes stations 
  • Group Fitness Class participants will not put back equipment and Fitness staff will clean, disinfect and put it away
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required

What we are doing to keep you safe
Facility

  • Prior to reopening, the entire Facility has gone through a rigorous deep clean and disinfecting.
  • High traffic surface areas will be disinfected a minimum of twice per day.
  • Floors are disinfected daily
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility. Additional hand sanitizing stations are available
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear a mask with the exception of Fitness Instructors while actively instructing a class
  • Protective barriers have been installed at designated locations where Staff and Participants meet, including the front desk, and where possible.
  • Signage to direct the flow of traffic and encourage physical distancing will be posted.

Fitness Centre

  • The Fitness Centre has been relocated to the Magna Centre Honda Rink to ensure that we have a minimum of 10 feet between our pieces
    of equipment
  • Thirty (30) minutes of dedicated cleaning is conducted after each workout session
  • Effective Friday October 2nd, all users of the Fitness Centre will be required to wear a mask/face covering at all times; with the exception of when you are actively using any of our cardio pieces of equipment.
  • We have all brand-new equipment available for your use
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment in-between each use. To make this convenient spray bottles have been replaced with new Certainty™ Disinfectant Wipes stations.
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear masks, with the exception of Group Fitness Instructors who are actively teaching a class.

In accordance with Government and Health Guidelines all fitness equipment is placed a minimum of 7 feet away from one another

Why should you book your workout session in advance?
  1. Guarantee your workout time: Booking in advance secures your spot. You can work out without booking, BUT with capacity limits, you will only be allowed entry if there is space.
  2. Ease of entry: You will be greeted into the Facility no earlier than 15 minutes prior to when your workout is scheduled to begin. By booking in advance, we already have you in our system, so you simply need to go through a simple health screening questionnaire.
  3. Maintain a safe Capacity: A preset capacity for each Amenity helps facilitate physical distancing and reduces the potential spread of communicable illnesses.

Booking Guidelines

To ensure everyone gets an opportunity to use our Fitness Amenities, here are some guidelines.

  • Registration in advance is required for all programming (Fitness Centre access, Group Fitness Classes, Lane swimming, etc.)
  • *NEW- No in person DROP IN's are permitted at this time, no exceptions
  • Members/Participants using fitness amenities are asked to only book one (1) session per day due to the limited availability at this time
  • At the end of a workout time slot, you must leave the Facility, regardless of when you entered.
  • Group Fitness participants will not be permitted to enter into the class after the scheduled start time
  • Fitness Sessions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Should the Town of Newmarket cancel classes and/or workout sessions beyond the control of our members/ users, a credit will be processed to your account to use for a future Fitness session and/or program/service offered by the Town.
  • If you cannot make your scheduled time up to two (2) days, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled session/class.  A credit will be applied to your account or you can rebook another available workout session/class.
  • For cancellations for Fitness Centre Sessions: within 2 days of your session, please notify us by emailing fitness@newmarket.ca  or calling 905-953-5303. A credit will be applied to your account 
  • For cancellations for all other Programming: within 2 days of your session, please notify us by emailing info@newmarket.ca  or calling 905-953-5303. A credit will be applied to your account
  • Cancellations received with less than 2-hour notice will be considered late and will be considered a no show.
  • Refunds will not be issued for "no shows".

How to book your workout session

1.     Log onto play.newmarket.ca

  • You will be required to use your Family PIN #and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/ members will have one already in our system. 

I forget my password or log in.

  • If you do not know or remember your LOGIN information:
  • Select 'Login' (on the top right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Select 'Forgot Password?'
  • An email will be sent to you from 'helpdesk, quik-e-link (TBC-trying to adjust)' with your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # for every member in your household.

I'm a new user

  • New users can create an account by clicking "Create New Account" in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • You will receive a confirmation of account activation within one (1) business day by email.
  1. Click on the Programs tab under the search function
  2. Under "Browse for Courses" click on 'Fitness Centre Drop Ins', find the desired workout session, click on the Add button to put it into your basket.
  3. You may move back and forth between My Basket and the Activities screen using the tabs at the top of the page.
  4. When you have finished, proceed to the Checkout to make a payment.
  5. A receipt once your payment has been successfully completed will be emailed to you for your records
  1. IMPORTANT: All online registrations must be paid in full using a valid credit card (VISA, Mastercard and American Express).  Any outstanding balance on your account must also be paid at this time.  Any credits on your account will automatically be applied to the total balance due. Please note that if you have a fitness membership, you will not be charged for the workout.

Waitlists, Withdrawals, Cancellations and No Show Policy

Waitlists:

  • Waitlists are managed regularly and are treated on a first come, first serve basis.  Should a spot become available a Town staff will contact you to advise accordingly.  You will not be contacted should there not be availability.  Drop ins are not permitted at this time.

Withdrawals and Cancellations:

  • If you cannot make your scheduled time up to two (2) days, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled session/class.  A credit will be applied to your account or you can rebook another available workout session/class.

No Show Policy:

If you fail to attend your reservation and do not cancel within 2 hours of its start time; the policy will be as follows:

1st No Show - An email will be sent to your attention by one of our Fitness Staff Members to advise you of our cancellation process and no show policy.

2nd No Show - Your account will be frozen and reservations will be not permitted for one (1) week.

What are the Fitness Centre Hours of Operation?

  • Monday to Friday: 6 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. 

  • Saturday to Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

When does registration start? What is the cut off?

  • You can book your workout sessions up to (1) week in advance.  Starting the week of October 5, reservations for fitness sessions, classes and all other drop-ins will be available on Friday's at 6 a.m. for the following week. Example: To register for the week of October 12; registration begins Friday October 9th at 6:00 a.m.
  • Members and non-members can book online to reserve a workout. You will be required to use your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/members will have one already in our system.
  • Online registration is available at play.newmarket.ca

What payment methods are available?
We encourage participants to register online at this time. Credit card payments are the only form of payment available onsite until further notice.

How are you ensuring safety?

  • Provincial and Regional Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines are being followed. The Fitness Centre has been temporarily relocated to the Honda Arena Pad in order to provide spacing of minimum 10-feet in-between pieces of equipment.

  • Masks are required when entering the facility and in common areas.
  • Effective Friday October 2 , all users of the Fitness Centre will be required to wear a mask/face covering at all times; with the exception of when you are actively using any of our cardio pieces of equipment. 
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility. Additional hand sanitizing stations are available.

Are washrooms available?

Yes, an accessible washroom is available for emergency use only.  Locker rooms, change rooms, showers and clubhouses remain closed until further notice.

Are water fountains available to use?

It is recommended that you bring your own (filled) bottle as water fountains/filling stations are temporarily unavailable until further notice.

Are lockers available? Is there storage for my items?

  • At the present time, no lockers, change rooms, showers are available.
  • Temporary storage stations are available for members to change into indoor shoes and store your belongings.  Please leave valuables at home as the Town is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

What should I bring to the Fitness Centre?

As locker rooms, change rooms, showers, etc. are currently unavailable, please come dressed ready for your workout. 

Is there a limit on how many people can access the fitness centre at one time?

Yes, there is currently a capacity of 10 spots available for reservations.  In person drop in's are not permitted at this time with no exceptions.


What if need to cancel my reservation last minute?

  • If you cannot make your scheduled time up to two (2) days, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled session/class.  A credit will be applied to your account or you can rebook another available workout session/class.

Membership Options

Hold Requests

If you would prefer to keep your membership on hold for the time being, we certainly understand and will accommodate. Memberships can be held for a maximum of four (4) months. Please send your hold requests using our Hold Form to fitness@newmarket.ca We are waiving the usual $10 charge to hold memberships.

Fitness Program Drop-ins

Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership and drop in fee’s are $5.00 plus tax for Fitness Centre, Group and Aqua Fitness access.  Please refer to our Swimming page for admission fees.

Cancellations

Should you wish to cancel your fitness membership, please complete our Cancellation form and email it to fitness@newmarket.ca. Cancellations require a period of 15 days notice from your pre-authorized scheduled payment date . We are waiving the usual $10 charge to cancel memberships.

Modifications to the fitness facility

Fitness Equipment

Newmarket Fitness is thrilled to announce that the Fitness Centre will be completely outfitted with new equipment from Matrix Fitness Canada.

Matrix Fitness Canada is the Canadian Division of Johnson Health Tech (JHT)

JHT/Matrix Fitness Canada is a division of Johnson Health Tech, the 2rd largest manufacturer of commercial fitness equipment in the world, including Matrix branded equipment.

Unique and Exclusive Programs on all Cardio Machines:

Amenities temporarily on pause

Pool Change Rooms: The Family change room will be open for changing for 10 minutes AFTER each scheduled swim/aqua fitness class only. Showers, hair dryers and other change room amenities will be unavailable until further notice and each user must use one of the stalls to change. Change room access will be limited to accommodate physical distancing requirements.

Water Fountains:  Participants are requested to bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workout. Water fountains will be equipped with bottle fillers should participants require additional water, but participants are not permitted to drink directly from the water fountains.

Lockers: Lockers will not be available at this time.  We highly recommend that you leave your valuables at home where possible.  Designated areas will be provided to safely put down your items while you work out and disinfected after each use

High touch-point equipment will not be available for use:

  • Foam rollers
  • Bands
  • Skipping ropes
  • Yoga mats/blocks/straps

Group Fitness

Group Fitness Information

Group Fitness Participants will be enjoying their classes in our Gymnasium to ensure physical distancing

  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership and non-members are at a $5.00 plus tax fee per class
  • Upon arrival Participants are required to line up outside the Magna Centre Facility (West Entrance) in the designated waiting area, prior to the booking start time. Signage will indicate the physical distancing requirements. 
  • Face masks are required within our facility.  Masks are not required during exercise but must remain on until directed otherwise from the Fitness Instructor
  • Ten (10) minutes prior to your class time a Pre-Screening Check in Process will begin
  • Classes must begin and end on time and no late check in's will be permitted at this time
  • Once checked in you will be permitted to check in with our Fitness Instructor at the entrance of the gymnasium
  • Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment
  • Personal items will be kept at your designated station
  • All participants have designated spots that is at a minimum of 10 feet/ 3 meters from another participant
  • You must be mindful of your neighbours to not move from your designated spot
  • Preset Equipment will be made available at each designated station
  • Participants are able to grab additional weights once the Fitness Instructor advises accordingly
  • Fitness staff will ensure that each piece is cleaned and disinfected after each use
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • Disinfectant equipment wipes will also be made available to fitness participants
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion beginning with the front row
  • Change rooms and showers are not available at this time
  • You must come ready to workout including your pre-filled water bottle as water fountains are not available at this time

Group Fitness FAQ

How do I attend a Group Fitness class.  Can I just show up?
All participants must pre-register and pay online. A reduced fee of $5 per class is available to Non-Fitness Centre Members.

 
Will change rooms and showers be available for my workout visit?
Change rooms and showers will not be available at this time. You should arrive dressed for your class. Please leave valuables at home and use a designated spot for items you bring with you.


How will you ensure my safety during my Group Fitness program?
Capacities are reduced and spots must be reserved.  A health screening will be required prior to entering the facility. Physical distancing will be mandatory and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.


Do I have to wear a mask?
All users are required to wear a mask/ face covering while in the facility, all common areas, and the group fitness area. Masks are not required during exercise, but recommended to be with you at all times.

Aqua Fitness

Aqua Fitness Information

  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Participants are required to line up outside the Magna Centre Facility (East Entrance), in the designated waiting area, prior to the booking start time. Signage will indicate the physical distancing requirements. 
  • Ten (10) minutes prior to your class time a Pre-Screening Check In Process will begin. Once checked in you will be permitted to wait safely and physically distanced in our designated waiting area
  • There will be a daily admission fee of $5 per Aqua Fitness class to be paid online if you do not have a membership or your membership is on hold. Pre-purchased 10/20/30/100x Membership Passes/ Swim Visits are not available to be used or purchased at this time.

  • All participants will be required to physically distance in the pool and capacities have been reduced to allow for this.
  • A phased in gradual approach will be made with equipment use.  Aquafit dumbbells and gloves are temporarily on pause. 
  • Participants are permitted to bring your own Aquafit belt, pool noodle and gloves for use
  • Town owned equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • All users are required to use the provided hand sanitizer and wear a mask while in the facility, all common areas, and the pool deck area. Masks are to be taken off and left with your belongings prior to entering the water.
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion with Deck Supervisors available to direct traffic flow.

Aqua Fitness FAQ

How do I attend an Aqua Fitness class. Can I just show up?

All participants must pre-register and pay online. There will be no in person drop ins available at this time. Residents are still asked to reserve their spot with their Fitness Centre Membership or pay online using the Pay As You Go fees.

Will change rooms and showers be available for my pool visit?

As of September 28, 2020, the family changeroom will be open for changing for 10 minutes AFTER each scheduled class. Showers will be unavailable and each user must use one of the stalls to change. The changeroom is non-gender specific and there is no nudity permitted in the family changeroom.

Changeroom access will be limited to accommodate physical distancing requirements. Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.

Changeroom Guidelines:

  • All participants are required to arrive changed and ready to swim. There will not be changeroom access permitted prior to your scheduled class.
  • Lockers will not be available. Please leave valuables at home and use a designated spot on the pool deck for items you bring to the pool. The Town of Newmarket is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Limited changeroom access will be provided for changing only AFTER each scheduled class. There will be no access to showers, hair dryers, bathing suit spinners, or outlets.
  • Masks/face coverings must be worn in the changeroom at all times.
  • Changeroom access is limited to 10 minutes AFTER the end of each class and all participants will be required to exit the facility through the pool deck after this 10-minute period. There will be floor markings to direct traffic flow.
  • Depending on the number of participants, you may have to wait to access the changeroom. You will be required to wait on the pool deck with your belongings as directed by the lifeguards.
  • Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.
  • The changeroom will be cleaned/sanitized throughout each day. Please use the changerooms at your own risk.


How will you ensure my safety during my Aqua Fit program?
Capacities are reduced and spots must be reserved.  A health screening will be required prior to entering the pool. Physical distancing will be mandatory and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.

 
Can I use my pre-purchased Aqua Fit membership pass?

Pre-purchased 10/20/30/100x aqua fit membership passes are not available to be used or purchased at this time.  Admission is $5.00 plus tax per class and must be paid online while registering for your class.  Participants who wish to obtain a credit for unused punch passes can do so by emailing info@newmarket.ca or by calling 905-953-5303.  This will permit participants to use the applied credit on their accounts for online registrations for classes.


Do I have to wear a mask?
As part of our safety protocols; all participants within the facility must wear a mask; including the pool deck.  Masks are to be taken off and left with your personal belongings prior to entering the water.


Will there be aqua fitness equipment to use during my class?

Assumption of Risk

The Town of Newmarket in collaboration with York Region Public Health, continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation. Users of the Town of Newmarket facilities, buildings and/or amenities are reminded that the facilities, buildings and/or amenities are open for use at your own risk. An inherent risk of exposure to communicable diseases including COVID-19 exists in any public space where people are present.
