We are happy to welcome everyone back to Newmarket Fitness at the Magna Centre!  Your experience will look and feel a bit different when you come back to us. Safeguards will be in place; some things will be available and some things will have to wait. But some things never change: we will always strive to be a welcoming, safe space full of caring staff waiting to serve you.

The Magna Pool is reopening!  The pool will be opening on September 14th for lane swim, public swim, and aqua fitness.  Participants are required to reserve their spot in advance.  For more information on swimming, please visit our website at newmarket.ca/swimming. For more information on Aqua Fitness, please read below.  Reservations can be made online at play.newmarket.ca 

The Magna Fitness Centre has successfully reopened!  The Fitness Centre has been relocated on the Honda Ice Pad at Magna Centre to ensure that there is ample space to accommodate participants in their work out. Participants are asked to reserve their spot in advance.  Reservations can be made online at play.newmarket.ca.

Group Fitness classes are set to restart the end of September.  For more information, please read below and check back to newmarket.ca/fitness for updates. 

Safety measures in place


What you need to do when using our facilities
  • Physical distancing of 2 metres is required at all times.
  • All members and staff are to follow the provincial self-assessment guidelines outlined by public health officials
  • All patrons in the facility will need to conduct a health screening upon arrival and assumption of risk (walk in only) upon arrival at the facility.
  • Sanitize your hands frequently.
  • Masks are required when entering the facility, in common areas, lobbies, washrooms, and hallways. Masks are not required in workout areas but recommended to be with you at all times
  • Identified entry and exit points as indicated by signage and markers must be followed
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment BEFORE and AFTER each use. To make this convenient spray bottles have been replaced with new Certainty™ Disinfectant Wipes stations 
  • Group Fitness Class participants will not put back equipment and Fitness staff will clean, disinfect and put it away
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required

What we are doing to keep you safe
Facility

  • Prior to reopening, the entire Facility has gone through a rigorous deep clean and disinfecting.
  • High traffic surface areas will be disinfected a minimum of twice per day.
  • Floors are disinfected daily
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility. Additional hand sanitizing stations are available
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear a mask with the exception of Fitness Instructors while actively instructing a class
  • Protective barriers have been installed at designated locations where Staff and Participants meet, including the front desk, and where possible.
  • Signage to direct the flow of traffic and encourage physical distancing will be posted.

Fitness Centre

  • The Fitness Centre has been relocated to the Magna Centre Honda Rink to ensure that we have a minimum of 7 feet between our pieces of equipment
  • We have all brand-new equipment available for your use
  • Members will be required to wipe down their equipment BEFORE and AFTER each use. To make this convenient spray bottles have been replaced with new Certainty™ Disinfectant Wipes stations 
  • At minimum of 30 minutes of dedicated cleaning is conducted after each 1.5 hours workout sessions
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear masks, with the exception of Group Fitness Instructors who are actively teaching a class.

Group Fitness Classes / Gymnasium

  • Group fitness classes have been moved to the gymnasium to ensure that you have ample space around you while you participate (once we are able to resume classes).
  • Classes are modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment
  • A phased in gradual approach will be made with equipment use
  • Equipment will be cleaned and disinfected and set up in advance to ensure physical distancing
  • Participants will not put back equipment and Fitness staff will clean, disinfect and put it away
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required
  • All participants will have designated spots that will be at a minimum of 6 feet/ 2 metres from another participant
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion beginning with the back row

In accordance with Government and Health Guidelines all fitness equipment is placed a minimum of 7 feet away from one another

Why should you book your workout session in advance?
  1. Guarantee your workout time: Booking in advance secures your spot. You can work out without booking, BUT with capacity limits, you will only be allowed entry if there is space.
  2. Ease of entry: You will be greeted into the Facility no earlier than 15 minutes prior to when your workout is scheduled to begin. By booking in advance, we already have you in our system, so you simply need to go through a simple health screening questionnaire.
  3. Maintain a safe Capacity: A preset capacity for each Amenity helps facilitate physical distancing and reduces the potential spread of communicable illnesses.

Booking Guidelines

To ensure everyone gets an opportunity to use our Fitness Amenities, here are some guidelines.

  • You are permitted to book Up to two (2) time blocks per day, however, you are welcome to try and walk-in at any other time session, as many times as they like, on the same day.
  • At the end of a workout time slot, you must leave the Facility, regardless of when you entered.
  • If you are 15 minutes or later for your time slot, we will release this spot for drop-ins. You will not be able to access the facility until the next available workout session.
  • Fitness Sessions are non-refundable and non-transferable. Should the Town of Newmarket cancel classes and/or workout sessions beyond the control of our members/ clients, a credit will be processed to your account to use for a future Fitness session and/or program/service offered by the Town.
  • If you cannot make your scheduled time up to one (1) business day, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled workout session.  A credit will be applied to your account or you can rebook another available workout session
  • Day of cancellations, please notify us by emailing fitness@newmarket.ca  A credit will be applied to your account
  • Cancellations received with less than 1-hour notice will be considered late and will be considered a no show.
  • Refunds will not be issued for "no shows".

How to book your workout session

1.     Log onto play.newmarket.ca

  • You will be required to use your Family PIN #and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/ members will have one already in our system. 

I forget my password or log in.

  • If you do not know or remember your LOGIN information:
  • Select 'Login' (on the top right-hand corner of the screen)
  • Select 'Forgot Password?'
  • An email will be sent to you from 'helpdesk, quik-e-link (TBC-trying to adjust)' with your Family PIN # and Personal Barcode # for every member in your household.

I'm a new user

  • New users can create an account by clicking "Create New Account" in the upper right corner of the screen.
  • You will receive a confirmation of account activation within one (1) business day by email.
  1. Click on the Programs tab under the search function
  2. Under "Browse for Courses" click on 'Fitness Centre Drop Ins', find the desired workout session, click on the Add button to put it into your basket.
  3. You may move back and forth between My Basket and the Activities screen using the tabs at the top of the page.
  4. When you have finished, proceed to the Checkout to make a payment.
  5. A receipt once your payment has been successfully completed will be emailed to you for your records
  1. IMPORTANT: All online registrations must be paid in full using a valid credit card (VISA, Mastercard and American Express).  Any outstanding balance on your account must also be paid at this time.  Any credits on your account will automatically be applied to the total balance due. Please note that if you have a fitness membership, you will not be charged for the workout.

When you can book your workout session

You can book your workout sessions one (1) week in advance. Registration begins Mondays at 6 a.m. for workout sessions for the following week.

  • Week of August 24 – Registration begins Friday, August 20, at 2 p.m.
  • Week of August 31 – Registration begins Monday, August 24 at 6 a.m.
  • Week of September 8 – Registration begins Monday, August 31 at 6 a.m.
  • Week of September 14 – Registration begins Monday, September 7 at 6 a.m.
  • Week of September 21 – Registration begins Monday, September 14 at 6 a.m.

When did the Fitness Centre Open?

What are the Fitness Centre Hours of Operation?

  • Monday to Friday: 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • Saturday & Sunday: 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

When does registration start? What is the cut off?

  • You can book your workout sessions one (1) week in advance. Registration begins Mondays at 6 a.m. for workout sessions for the following week.
  • Members and non-members can book online to reserve a workout. You will be required to use your Family PIN #and Personal Barcode # to book a time slot. All existing users/ members will have one already in our system. 
  • Online registration is available at play.newmarket.ca   
  • Drop-ins workouts available pending availability. Check play.newmarket.ca for updated availability.

What payment methods are available?

We encourage participants to register online at this time. Credit card payments are the only form of payment available onsite until further notice. 

How are you ensuring safety?

  • Provincial and Regional Public Health COVID-19 Guidelines are being followed. The Fitness Centre has been temporarily relocated to the Honda Arena Pad in order to provide spacing of minimum 7-feet in-between pieces of equipment.
  • Masks are required when entering the facility and in common areas. Masks are not required in workout areas but recommended to be with you at all times.
  • Hand sanitizing stations will be made available at the entrance and accessible throughout the facility. Additional hand sanitizing stations are available.
  • All Fitness staff will be required to wear a mask.

Are washrooms available?

Yes, an accessible washroom is available for emergency use only.  Locker rooms, change rooms, showers and clubhouses remain closed until further notice.

 

Are water fountains available to use?

It is recommended that you bring your own (filled) bottle as water fountains/filling stations are temporarily unavailable until further notice.

 

Are lockers available? Is there storage for my items?

  • At the present time, no lockers, change rooms, showers are available.
  • Temporary storage stations are available for members to change into indoor shoes and store your belongings.  Please leave valuables at home as the Town is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

 

What should I bring to the Fitness Centre?

As locker rooms, change rooms, showers, etc. are currently unavailable, please come dressed ready for your workout. 


Is there a limit on how many people can access the fitness centre at one time?

Yes, there is currently a capacity of 30 spots available for reservations and drop-ins where available. Subject to change.

 

What if I need a spotter?

Spotters (other members, guests) can assist you with your workout as needed.  However, we recommend and strongly encourage our members to remain "in your bubble" meaning your spotter is a person already in your collective group of 10 people  (your "bubble") and  both participants are required to wear a mask if spotting is required due to close proximity to one another.

 

What if need to cancel my reservation last minute?

  • If you cannot make your scheduled time up to one (1) business day, in advance you can log back into your account and withdraw yourself from the scheduled workout session.  A credit will be applied to your account or you can rebook another available workout session

Membership Options

50% Reduced Monthly Fee for September 2020 Only
  • We are phasing the Fitness Centre reopening and some of our services will not be open right away. Adult and Household Memberships are 50% for the month of September only.
  • Student Memberships remain at the regular fee of $22.50 / month.
  • Starting in October 2020 and onwards, all regular, non-discounted Membership Fees will apply.

Reactivation
  • Fitness membership passes reactivate on August 26th, 2020. 
  • We are phasing the Fitness Centre reopening and many services will not be open right away, we will only charge half the regular price for the month of September. 
  • Pre-authorized payment schedules will resume on September 1st, 2020 but your payment withdrawal day will remain the same as before the COVID-19 membership hold and extension
Hold Requests

If you would prefer to keep your membership on hold for the time being, we certainly understand and will accommodate. Memberships can be held for a maximum of four (4) months. Please send your hold requests using our Hold Form to fitness@newmarket.ca We are waiving the usual $10 charge to hold memberships.

Fitness Program Drop-ins

We are pleased to offer a reduced fee of $5.00 plus tax per drop-in amenity if you do not have a membership or your membership is on hold

Cancellations

Should you wish to cancel your fitness membership, please complete our Cancellation form and email it to fitness@newmarket.ca. Cancellations require a period of 15 days notice from your pre-authorized scheduled payment date . We are waiving the usual $10 charge to cancel memberships.

Newmarket Fitness is thrilled to announce that the Fitness Centre will be completely outfitted with new equipment from Matrix Fitness Canada.

Amenities temporarily on pause

Showers: Our showers and change rooms will remain closed at this time.  We highly recommend that you come prepared for your workout.

Water Fountains:  Participants are requested to bring a pre-filled water bottle for their workout. Water fountains will be equipped with bottle fillers should participants require additional water, but participants are not permitted to drink directly from the water fountains.

Lockers: Lockers will not be available at this time.  We highly recommend that you leave your valuables at home where possible.  Designated areas will be provided to safely put down your items while you work out and disinfected after each use

High touch-point equipment will not be available for use:

  • Foam rollers
  • Bands
  • Skipping ropes
  • Yoga mats/blocks/straps

Group Fitness Information

Group Fitness Participants will be enjoying their classes in our Gymnasium to ensure physical distancing

  • Reserving your spot is required online at play.newmarket.ca
  • Fitness Centre Members are at a $0 fee as it is included in your membership and non-members are at a $5.00 plus tax fee per class
  • Upon arrival Participants are required to line up outside the Magna Centre Facility (West Entrance) in the designated waiting area, prior to the booking start time. Signage will indicate the physical distancing requirements. 
  • Face masks are required within our facility.  Masks are not required during exercise but must remain on until directed otherwise from the Fitness Instructor
  • Ten (10) minutes prior to your class time a Pre-Screening Check in Process will begin
  • Classes must begin and end on time and no late check in's will be permitted at this time
  • Once checked in you will be permitted to check in with our Fitness Instructor at the entrance of the gymnasium
  • Classes have been modified where possible to ensure less movement and equipment
  • Personal items will be kept at your designated station
  • All participants have designated spots that is at a minimum of 6 feet/ 2 meters from another participant
  • You must be mindful of your neighbours to not move from your designated spot
  • Preset Equipment will be made available at each designated station
  • Participants are able to grab additional weights once the Fitness Instructor advises accordingly
  • Fitness staff will ensure that each piece is cleaned and disinfected after each use
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • Disinfectant equipment wipes will also be made available to fitness participants
  • We recommend that you bring your own mat, straps and yoga blocks if required
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion beginning with the front row
  • Change rooms and showers are not available at this time
  • You must come ready to workout including your pre-filled water bottle as water fountains are not available at this time

Group Fitness FAQ

How do I attend a Group Fitness class.  Can I just show up?
All participants must pre-register and pay online. A reduced fee of $5 per class is available to Non-Fitness Centre Members.

 
Will change rooms and showers be available for my workout visit?
Change rooms and showers will not be available at this time. You should arrive dressed for your class. Please leave valuables at home and use a designated spot for items you bring with you.

Aqua Fitness

Aqua Fitness Information

  • Pre-purchased 10/20/30/100x Membership Pass/ Aqua Fit visits are not available to be used or purchased at this time.
  • All participants will be required to physically distance in the pool and capacities have been reduced to allow for this.
  • A phased in gradual approach will be made with equipment use.  Aquafit dumbbells and gloves are temporarily on pause. 
  • Participants are permitted to bring your own Aquafit belt, pool noodle and gloves for use
  • Town owned equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use
  • There will be no sharing of equipment at this time
  • All users are required to use the provided hand sanitizer and wear a mask while in the facility, all common areas, and the pool deck area. Masks are to be taken off and left with your belongings prior to entering the water.
  • Exiting procedures will be in an orderly fashion with Deck Supervisors available to direct traffic flow.

Aqua Fitness FAQ

How do I attend an Aqua Fit class.  Can I just show up?
All participants must pre-register and pay online. There will be no in person drop ins available at this time. A reduced fee of $5 per class is available to Non-Fitness Centre Members.

Will change rooms and showers be available for my pool visit?

As of September 28, 2020, the family changeroom will be open for changing for 10 minutes AFTER each scheduled class. Showers will be unavailable and each user must use one of the stalls to change. The changeroom is non-gender specific and there is no nudity permitted in the family changeroom.

Changeroom access will be limited to accommodate physical distancing requirements. Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.

Changeroom Guidelines:

  • All participants are required to arrive changed and ready to swim. There will not be changeroom access permitted prior to your scheduled class.
  • Lockers will not be available. Please leave valuables at home and use a designated spot on the pool deck for items you bring to the pool. The Town of Newmarket is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Limited changeroom access will be provided for changing only AFTER each scheduled class. There will be no access to showers, hair dryers, bathing suit spinners, or outlets.
  • Masks/face coverings must be worn in the changeroom at all times.
  • Changeroom access is limited to 10 minutes AFTER the end of each class and all participants will be required to exit the facility through the pool deck after this 10-minute period. There will be floor markings to direct traffic flow.
  • Depending on the number of participants, you may have to wait to access the changeroom. You will be required to wait on the pool deck with your belongings as directed by the lifeguards.
  • Participants are encouraged to leave the pool enclosure immediately after their scheduled class and to shower and change at home.
  • The changeroom will be cleaned/sanitized throughout each day. Please use the changerooms at your own risk.


How will you ensure my safety during my Aqua Fit program?
Capacities are reduced and spots must be reserved.  A health screening will be required prior to entering the pool. Physical distancing will be mandatory and regular cleaning and sanitization of high touch points and equipment will be performed regularly.

 
Can I use my pre-purchased Aqua Fit membership pass?

Pre-purchased 10/20/30/100x aqua fit membership passes are not available to be used or purchased at this time.  Admission is $5.00 plus tax per class and must be paid online while registering for your class.  Participants who wish to obtain a credit for unused punch passes can do so by emailing info@newmarket.ca or by calling 905-953-5303.  This will permit participants to use the applied credit on their accounts for online registrations for classes.


Do I have to wear a mask?
As part of our safety protocols; all participants within the facility must wear a mask; including the pool deck.  Masks are to be taken off and left with your personal belongings prior to entering the water.


Will there be aqua fitness equipment to use during my class?

A phased in gradual approach will be made with equipment use. Aquafit dumbbells and gloves are temporarily on pause. Participants are permitted to bring your own Aquafit belt, pool noodle and gloves for use. Equipment will be cleaned and disinfected after each use. There will be no sharing of equipment at this time.
