Traffic and Safety

Report unsafe, dangerous or aggressive driving to York Regional Police

This program provides residents with the means to report dangerous or unlawful driving behaviour.

Crossing guards

The Town of Newmarket's crossing guards ensure children in the community are escorted safely across roadways. Drivers and pedestrians are reminded to take caution in school zones and to look and listen for the crossing guards' stop sign and hand-held electric whistles.

Please take a close listen to the crossing guards' whistle as they all have a certain meaning:

  • The first whistle is to tell that the guard is proceeding to the centre of the roadway to stop traffic.
  • The second whistle is sounded when traffic has completely stopped, to advise children/pedestrians that it is now safe to cross the roadway.
  • Lastly, the third whistle is to alert when the children/pedestrians and the guard have safely crossed the road, indicating to the motorist(s) that it is now safe to proceed.

Safety driven

The Town of Newmarket takes traffic safety seriously. That's why the Town's Transportation Services investigates, analyzes and implements various traffic control measures to increase safety and decrease congestion on Newmarket's roads.
