Message from the Mayor
Welcome to the Town of Newmarket, home to more than 90,000 people with a thriving business community. We can boast about truly being the heart of York Region as home to York Regional Council - Administrative Offices and Southlake Regional Health Centre among many support services provided on a regional basis.
We are conveniently located between Highways 404 to the east and 400 to the west connected by Davis Drive. We have GO Transit, Viva Rapid Transit and York Regional Transit services as well as Smart Commute Central York for commuting options. We are within a half hour's drive to Pearson International Airport and Toronto.
As a designated Urban Growth Centre, Newmarket will grow to be home for 98,000 people by 2026 and being only 14 square miles in size, allows us to continue to build on our sense of community with safe, welcoming neighbourhoods.
Newmarket is an environmentally progressive community, being home to Canada's first LEEDs Platinum residential subdivision. We have lots of green space, parks and extensive trail systems throughout. The most popular trail, Tom Taylor Trail, runs through the centre of our Town from our southern border to our northern border along the banks of the Holland River and is approximately six kilometres long. Adding to this, we are implementing our exciting new Community Urban Space Project as part of our new Cultural Master Plan.
There is always plenty to do and see in Newmarket, and we encourage you to take the time to experience everything Newmarket has to offer.
Newmarket – a great place to call home.
Sincerely,
John Taylor
Mayor of the Town of Newmarket
