"Light has long captivated artists as both subject and symbol - a source of clarity, warmth, hope, and even pursuit. Most artwork engages with light. Whether it's the golden glow of dusk, the slanting light of autumn before the dark winter, the struggle to find light in darkness, or the fleeting moments of illumination that define the human experience, this exhibit aims to reflect the many ways artists interpret and chase light." 

This special juried exhibition of artwork by members of the Newmarket Group of Artists responds to the theme of “Chasing the Light”. On view are artworks in a range of media that reflect a variety of creative interpretations and poetic associations to this theme and its many cultural and artistic expressions. 

The NGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion, recognition, and celebration of the visual arts in Newmarket. Their main objective is to provide an umbrella organization for visual artists in Newmarket, giving them a voice within the community and fostering a sense of community within the group. 

Artwork is available for purchase. All inquiries about the purchase of the artwork can be directed to Sarah Ernst, Supervisor, Culture Services, sernst@newmarket.ca.

Shakespeare speaks to taking advantage of opportunities in our lives. Ever-changing, moving, fluid and often influenced by things beyond our control. This theme can be interpreted in a myriad of ways: Do we look toward the ebb and flow of the earth's oceans? The marine life that thrives in the currents? The ebbs and flows in our personal lives and in our communities? Or the abundance of life that can be found in the tide pools? This theme is an artist's oyster!

On display are artworks in a range of media that reflect a variety of creative interpretations and poetic associations to this theme and its many cultural and artistic expressions.

"Be kind.... But with spine." —Karen Salmansohn

As we watch our world changing rapidly around us, where do we place our boundaries as artists? Do we approach life, love, allegiances and identities with open hearts, love and peace? Or do we stand in rebellion like many artists before us?

This theme is as broad as it can be; from looking at the political climate in the world right now, to the ecological changes and challenges that the world is facing. How Canadians are rallying around our culture in defiance. How we, as individuals are responding to our world, how we are divided, but also how we are inextricably connected, to each other and to the land we live on.

This special juried exhibition of artwork by members of the Newmarket Group of Artists (NGA) responds to the theme of Borders of the Heart: Compassion and Resistance in a Changing Landscape. On display were artworks in a range of media that reflect a variety of creative interpretations and poetic associations to this feeling and its many cultural and artistic expressions.

As we often do, when we begin a new year, many of us make resolutions and promises; promises often thrown away within months, leaving behind the realities of time, the measure of will, and lifestyles that often have no pause. We invite you to explore the "Harmony in the Stillness". Moments of contemplation to give yourself grace, give yourself permission to "steal" time, to enjoy peacefulness of mind, and possibly, doing nothing.

"Warmth...it's that crackling sound and the dance of flames of a summer bonfire, the colours of a golden sunset, the vistas of tropical places, and the last blaze of colours on an autumn drive."

NGA artists were invited to submit works that explore the feeling of warmth through imagery or colour. On display were artworks in a range of media that reflect a variety of creative interpretations and poetic associations upon this cozy sensation and its many cultural and artistic associations.

NGA artists were invited to submit works that herald the season of sping and celebrate the beauty and complexities of the colour green. On display were artworks in a range of media that reflect a variety of creative interpretations and poetic meditions upon this vivid colour and its many cultural and artistic associations.

On display were artworks in a range of media that reflected a journey of discovery, reflection and introspection. Viewers were invited to consider their relationships with others and with the world at large.

This special juried exhibition of artwork by members of the Newmarket Group of Artists (NGA) responded to the theme of Letting Go. On display were artworks that explored the changes and opportunities that life presented. With every opportunity comes a decision, and sometimes that means a dream, or another path must be turned away from. In a painting, for example, each new brushstroke buries whatever lay beneath it, changing the work forever.

This special juried exhibition of artwork by members of the Newmarket Group of Artists (NGA) responds to the theme of Summer Love. The artists had responded to the exhibition's theme through a variety of interpretations and media. On display were artworks that explored the meaning of love and the lightness and playfulness that is often associated with summer.

395 Executive Gallery can accommodate smaller group shows providing approx. 45 feet of hanging space. This is an ideal space for emerging art groups and collectives. We recommend visiting the space to see the hanging capacity. 

No, 395 Executive Gallery does not provide its exhibitors with insurance. 

395 Executive Gallery programs two (2) exhibits per year; exhibitors must be compliant with a 5-6 month exhibition. 

The length of the show will be determined in the early planning stages of the exhibition. 

A commission of 40% is taken from art sales.

Newmarket Old Town Hall consists of two (2) gallery spaces; Serpa Galleries and the Community Gallery. For larger shows, we recommend both gallery spaces be booked. The Serpa Galleries are approximately 1957 sq ft and have the capacity to increase and decrease hanging space due to our movable art panels. 

The Community Gallery add an extra 320 sq ft.

Newmarket Old Town Hall Gallery provides each exhibitor with display insurance. Exhibitor(s) must disclose the value of each artwork shown regardless if the work is for sale or not. 

The preferred duration of each exhibit is 8 weeks. The Newmarket Old Town Hall reserves the right to shorten or extend the exhibition. The length of the show will be determined in the early planning stages of the exhibition. 

The Newmarket Old Town Hall takes a commission of 40% from art sales.

The Newmarket Old Town Hall galleries are multi purpose venues, therefore exhibitors must be compliant with bookings and programs running in the gallery spaces throughout the exhibition.
