Background
In 2008, Council adopted a Council Compensation Policy [PDF/59KB] which provides:
- A market comparison of Members of Council compensation is conducted in year four of each four year term of Council. The market comparison will be conducted with comparator municipalities.
- Base pay for Members of Council is revised annually to reflect any economic adjustment, or as otherwise determined.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor/Regional Councillor roles are classified as full-time elected offices while Ward Councillors are classified as part-time elected offices.

Base pay represents elected official remuneration scale. Amounts paid and reported during the year may vary slightly due to timing differences and specific reporting requirements.
**Base pay - York Region is adjusted on April 1st
- Top amount is base pay from April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025.
- Bottom amount is base pay from April 1, 2025 to March 31, 2026.
