
Animal Licensing and Registration
All dogs and cats in the Town of Newmarket must have a license in accordance with the Animal Licensing, Regulation and Control By-law 2020-30 [PDF/216KB]. This simple process will ensure you reunite with your pet if they get lost.
How to purchase an animal license
There are two ways to purchase an animal license in Newmarket:
- Online
- By mail
Online animal licensing and registration
The Town offers online animal licensing and registration. When you license your pet online, you will automatically receive an online pet profile. This allows you to:
- Add information about your pet
- Edit key information if it changes
- Upload a photo of your pet
- Report if your pet is lost
In addition, when you license your pets online, you will receive an annual rewards card. A variety of local businesses have offered deals to rewards cardholders.
Purchase an animal license by mail
To purchase an animal license by mail, you will need to fill out an application and mail it to:

Please note: If your cat was registered with the Town prior to May 15, 2003, you are not required to obtain an annual license.
Certified guide or assistance dogs

When licensing a Certified Guide or Assistance Dog for the first time, licensing must be done in person at any of the locations listed below:
- Municipal Offices (395 Mulock Drive)
- Magna Centre (800 Mulock Drive)
- Ray Twinney Recreation Complex (100 Eagle Street)
- Newmarket Seniors Meeting Place (474 Davis Drive)
Future renewals may be done online once the status is verified. No fee is required for service animals, guide dogs, or police enforcement animals.
