Sidewalk and Curb Repair

Please report sidewalk and/or curb deficiencies to the Town of Newmarket at 905-895-5193 or email info@newmarket.ca. Your request will be reviewed and your area assessed by the maintenance coordinator. If a repair is required, it will be scheduled accordingly. We will make every effort to complete the repairs soon after they are reported. However, some repairs may not be completed until the following year.

If you believe that your sidewalk and/or curb needs to be repaired, and would like to make a special request for an assessment, please contact the Town of Newmarket. Assessment requests should be submitted before May 31st. This will allow adequate time to assess and add the location to the contractor's list, if required. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee that repairs needed to facilitate your project will be completed during the year they are requested.

Sidewalks and curbs are repaired based on their condition assessment. Contractors and residents cannot request for sidewalk replacements.

Winter months can cause havoc on sidewalks and curbs. The freeze and thaw cycles experienced in Newmarket can sometimes displace the sidewalk and curbs which results in higher sidewalk and/or curb elevations and reduced clearance for automobiles. By the end of May, if the sidewalk and/or curb have not settled and an assessment by the Town is required, please contact the Town of Newmarket at 905-895-5193.

If the sidewalk in front of your property is pooling water, it may have heaved during the recent frost event. This is a common challenge we face every year during the winter months and can be seen throughout Newmarket. Please note that residents are responsible for maintaining sidewalks located along their property in accordance to By-law 1996-38 during the freeze/thaw cycles.

The sidewalk inspection program usually starts in May and repairs start shortly thereafter. We will make every effort to complete the repairs soon after they are reported however, some repairs may not be completed until the following year.

An independent contractor hired by the Town of Newmarket performs sidewalk and/or curb repairs. Scheduling of repairs is determined completely by the independent contractor. The Town of Newmarket does not have any control over the repair schedule.
