As part of maintenance work, Metrolinx is replacing, repairing and upgrading infrastructure along the Barrie GO line in the Town of Newmarket near Fairy Lake. Part of this work includes rehabilitation of a retaining wall in the corridor.
This phase of work will take place from May 22 to July 3. General working hours are Monday to Sunday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. and 12 a.m. to 6 a.m. Nighttime work will be limited to activities that cannot be completed during the day due to operational or safety constraints.
What to expect:
- The rehabilitation of the retaining walls along the corridor will begin on Friday, May 22, 2026, during a weekend pause in service of the Barrie line.
- Work will be carried out in stages including:
- Drilling, placement and installation of caisson piles,
- Placement of pre-made retaining wall panels, and
- Site restoration work.
- Temporary reductions to pathway access for machinery movement and corridor access will occur.
- Temporary lane closures will be in place at Mulock Drive and Water Street. Please exercise caution in all areas under construction and follow the direction of signage and flag persons.
- Nearby businesses and homes may hear noise caused by heavy equipment and material delivery equipment required for this work. Work will be conducted as efficiently as possible to minimize disturbances in the area.
- Lights will be directed into the work site to minimize light pollution into nearby buildings and businesses.
