News & Notice

The Town of Newmarket is encouraging eligible residents to confirm they are on the voters’ list now, so they are ready to vote in the Municipal Election in October. Being registered helps ensure eligible voters receive important election information and can cast their vote online when the time comes.

Residents can check, update, or add their voter information online at RegisterToVoteON.ca. If you have moved, changed your name, or have not voted in a while, taking a moment to confirm your details now can help avoid delays later.

Beyond voting, the Town is also reminding individuals who want to play a role in shaping local decisions to consider running for office in the 2026 Municipal Election.

The candidate nomination period is open until Friday, August 21, 2026 at 2 p.m.

Individuals interested in running for office must formally file their nomination with the Town of Newmarket Elections Office during the nomination period. All information, including nomination forms and filing requirements, are available on the Town’s election website at newmarketvotes.ca/candidates/filing-a-nomination.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to review the filing requirements carefully and contact the Newmarket Elections Office at elections@newmarket.ca or 905 953 5152 with any questions.

The Town of Newmarket posts the names of registered candidates on the election website at newmarketvotes.ca. The list will be updated regularly throughout the nomination period.
