The Town of Newmarket's water department regularly tests and maintains all the fire hydrants Newmarket to ensure they operate and provide fire fighting ability for Central York Fire Services (CYFS) during an emergency.
Keep hydrants unobstructed and clear
It is extremely important for residents to keep fire hydrants adjacent to their property unobstructed and clear at all times because every second counts during an emergency.
Become a neighbourhood hero and adopt a fire hydrant. Help keep hydrants clear of snow and ice in the winter, and grass and shrubbery in the summer. Central York Fire Services recommends clearing one metre (3ft) in every direction around a hydrant all year round.

- Report leaking, broken, damaged or malfunctioning hydrants on municipal property to the Town of Newmarket by emailing info@newmarket.ca or calling 905-895-5193.
- Report leaking, broken, damaged or malfunctioning hydrants on private property to CYFS by calling 905-895-9222 or by emailing info@cyfs.ca.
Fire hydrant flow testing
Regularly testing fire hydrants ensures its ability to provide water at an acceptable pressure and flow rate during an emergency. Fire hydrant testing guidelines are outlined by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA).
Fire hydrant flow test application
Individuals, contractors and developers can apply for have a municipally-owned fire hydrant tested for a fee. The Town of Newmarket cannot test privately owned fire hydrants.
Fire hydrant testing is only available between April 1 and October 1 (weather permitting).
