The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that Environment and Climate Change Canada is forecasting widespread rainfall across the watershed today, with total amounts of 30 to 50 mm expected and higher local amounts possible in areas affected by thunderstorms. Some areas have already received up to 25 mm of rainfall this morning, and additional showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected throughout the day.
Localized flooding in low-lying areas, ponding of water on roads, and elevated water levels and flows in rivers and streams are possible should the forecast rainfall occur. Watercourses across the watershed are currently near seasonal conditions; however, additional rainfall may result in rapidly rising water levels and flows over the next 24 hours, particularly in areas receiving heavier rainfall.
The anticipated rainfall will increase flows in local watercourses, causing streams and rivers to become dangerous, particularly in the vicinity of bridges and culverts. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.
