Newmarket wins awards from Ontario Public Works Association and Canadian Public Works Association
Council celebrated the Town receiving the 2026 Roger Brown Award from the Ontario Public Works Association and the 2026 Canadian Public Works Association National Public Works Week Award. The awards recognize the Town’s outstanding National Public Works Week initiatives, including public education campaigns and the Touch a Truck event that attracted thousands of visitors and showcased the vital role public works professionals play in supporting the community.
During National Public Works Week (May 17 to 23), the Town of Newmarket hosted various internal and external events and campaigns to promote the profession of public works, under the theme of “Rooted in Service, Powered by the Community”. Festivities included a public educational campaign on social media and the beloved Touch a Truck event that saw more than 3,000 attendees come out and get up close and personal with their favourite trucks.
The Roger Brown Award is presented to communities with a population less than 150,000. The award is provided to municipalities who demonstrate outstanding efforts in commemoration of National Public Works Week, highlighting public works contributions and services that benefit and enrich the community. Newmarket was selected as the winning entry based on its public outreach, education, staff involvement, political involvement, and events held. Newmarket previously won the same award in 2016 and 2018.
