News & Notice

As part of regular inspections and assessments of Town infrastructure we are conducting a Fairy Lake Dam Condition Assessment and Engineering Study. The Town of Newmarket is working with consultants to conduct a visual inspection of the Fairy Lake Dam between October 8 and 16 (weather and site permitting).

This work will provide valuable information on the condition and performance of the dam to support future planning, maintenance, and long-term stewardship of this important Town asset.

What to expect

  • A small team of engineering professionals will conduct visual inspections around the dam and adjacent shoreline areas.
  • The inspection team may be seen on both the upstream and downstream sides of the dam, including areas near the bridge and shoreline.
  • Workers wearing safety equipment, including waders, personal flotation devices and high-visibility clothing, may enter shallow areas downstream of the dam to inspect accessible structural components.
  • Measuring tools, cameras and other equipment will be used to document existing conditions.
  • A temporary pole-mounted wooden flashboard may be used at select locations along the dam to improve visibility during the inspection. This will not affect normal dam operations.
  • Drone technology may be used to inspect areas that cannot be safely accessed from the ground.
  • Town staff will be on-site to support and monitor the work.

The work is considered low impact and no significant disruptions to Fairy Lake Park users, pedestrians or nearby residents are anticipated. Normal use of the park and surrounding trails is expected to continue throughout the inspection period.

Reminder: Water-based recreational activities are not permitted on Fairy Lake due to fluctuating and potentially unsafe water conditions. The inspection activities described above are being performed by qualified professionals under contract to the Town of Newmarket.
