Are you a member of Newmarket's diverse Black community? The Town is now recruiting people within the community who offer a range of perspectives to join the Dismantling Anti-Black Racism Advisory Committee to help build a strong, healthy and equitable community where everyone feels they belong.
This is a great opportunity for individuals to:
- Help strengthen the Town of Newmarket's connection to Black communities
- Provide input and support to the Town on addressing anti-Black racism
- Facilitate communication and engagement with Black communities
- Help provide progress reports to Council
- Build your leadership skills and create connections
To represent the diversity of the Black community, we're looking to form a committee of 7-11 individuals with a variety of perspectives, including gender, age (youth to seniors) cultural, ethnic, language and country origins, socio-economic status, abilities, disabilities, and education.
Members will be appointed for a two-year term from 2024 to 2026 and will be expected to attend quarterly meetings (in person or virtually) at 7 p.m.
Members will receive an honorarium of $100 per attended meeting.
The community's participation in this Committee is a foundational role in supporting Town staff and Council in taking steps to dismantle anti-Black racism (DABR) in Newmarket.
