Enhancing accessible parking on Main Street
Newmarket Council is responding to feedback from residents and the Accessibility Advisory Committee to enhance accessible parking on Main Street. Based on user feedback, Council has increased the time limit for accessible parking spaces on Main Street to three hours.
The current time limits for parking on Main Street were introduced to offer flexibility for shoppers and diners on weekday evenings and weekends, while maintaining fast turnaround, and therefore increased parking availability, during weekdays. Parking on Main Street allows for a 30-minute window from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, and a two-hour window on weekday evenings and weekends.
In addition to extending the time limit for accessible parking spaces, Town staff will explore the option of adding one additional on-street accessible parking space on Main Street within the Business Improvement Area and report back to Council at a future meeting.

With Council’s support, members of the Heritage Newmarket Advisory Committee will be submitting Newmarket’s Postmark Hotel for the Lieutenant Governor's Ontario Heritage Award for Excellence in Conservation in recognition of the care and adaptive reuse of this historical building in the community.
Dating back to 1914, the building at 180 Main Street South was once a historic post office, and now this architectural landmark serves as Newmarket’s first boutique hotel.
