Watershed Conditions Statement in effect until Tuesday, August 25

Weather Alert

The Lake Simcoe Region Conservation Authority advises that weather forecasts indicate a low-pressure system, bringing heavy rainfall and thunderstorms, is expected to stall over the Lake Simcoe watershed for at least 48 hours this coming weekend. Total rainfall accumulations from Saturday through Monday could surpass 100-120 mm, if the forecast proves accurate.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas, ponding of water on roads, and elevated water levels and flows in rivers and streams are possible if the forecast rainfall occurs. Watercourses across the watershed are currently near seasonal conditions; however, forecast rainfall could result in rapidly rising water levels and flows beginning Saturday and continuing into early next week.

The anticipated rainfall will increase flows in watercourses, causing local streams and rivers to become dangerous, especially in the vicinity of culverts and bridges. Children and pets should be warned to stay away from all watercourses.
